Chapter 4
The lycan's nonchalant demeanor after the impulsive kiss caught Scarlett off guard. His smirk remained unwavering, an unspoken confidence exuded from his youthful features.
"Actually, I found you," Sebastian quipped, his tone laced with a playful charm that resonated within the room.
Scarlett couldn't help but feel the warmth spreading across her cheeks at his candid response. Sebastian's revelation about his upcoming eighteenth birthday shed light on the situation. It explained his youthful appearance and impulsive behavior—lycans were known for their early quest to find their mates, propelled by their innate impatience and accelerated maturation compared to werewolves and humans. The realization that lycans could seek their mates even before eighteen surprised her; it was a detail she hadn't encountered in the lore.
Still slightly flustered but willing to let the spontaneous kiss slide, Scarlett chose to attribute the action to Sebastian's impulsive nature and unbridled excitement upon encountering her. After all, she'd initiated contact herself, sprinting towards him in a rush of emotion and connection.
Gathering a few sets of her freshly washed clothes, she ushered the two men out of the room, hurriedly dressing herself. Her slightly disheveled state only added to her flustered demeanor, prompting her to swiftly gather herself.
Upon exiting the room, she gently took Sebastian's hand, a gesture meant to guide him elsewhere. "Come, let's go to the kitchen," she suggested, leading the way with an air of both authority and warmth.
The intrusion of a lycan into her pack's territory explained the undetected entry, attributing it to the stealth and prowess innate to lycans. Despite this, it didn't absolve the security team, a fact Scarlett made a mental note to address later.
Seating Sebastian on one of the stools beside the kitchen counter, Scarlett turned her attention to her unexpected guest. "Would you like something? Food, tea, milk?" she offered, her demeanor shifting to one of hospitable courtesy. Her instincts urged her to be friendly and accommodating, acknowledging the need to establish rapport and delve into their burgeoning connection.
Sebastian's unwavering gaze fixated on her, a silent but resolute demeanor emanating from him as he declined her offer with a simple shake of his head.
Stepping closer to him, Scarlett studied him intently, a mix of curiosity and wonderment coloring her expression. "What's your name?" she inquired, her voice tinged with a hint of incredulity.
The revelation of finding her destined mate, a lycan, left Scarlett wrestling with conflicting emotions. Though similar in many respects, the divergence between their two species presented itself as a potential obstacle. She knew firsthand the challenges that could arise when a lycan and a werewolf were mated—syncing, understanding, and maintaining a cohesive partnership were paramount, especially given their inherent differences.
"Sebastian," he replied in a gentle yet resonant voice that belied his youthful appearance. "And yours?"
The weight of the moment lingered in the air, as Scarlett grappled with the significance of this unexpected encounter. Her mate—a lycan—someone whose arrival marked the beginning of an uncharted journey fraught with challenges and unknowns. Yet, in his presence, she felt a peculiar sense of resonance and connection that she couldn't quite comprehended
Scarlett found herself drawn to Sebastian's eyes, ensnared by their soothing hue that seemed to exude a comforting tranquility. The worries that once plagued her mind dissipated, replaced by a serene calmness that enveloped her. For the first time in what felt like an eternity, she felt a profound sense of peace wash over her—a respite from the ceaseless responsibilities and challenges that defined her role as the future Alpha of Cloudranch.
Under the moonlit sky, Scarlett's connection with Sebastian deepened. His eyes, a tranquil oasis, provided solace from the burdens of leadership. The overwhelming calmness offered a reprieve from her duties as the impending Alpha. As their gazes locked, Scarlett felt an unspoken understanding, a shared journey through the complexities of their worlds. In that fleeting moment, the weight of responsibility lifted, replaced by the comforting embrace of a connection that transcended the challenges that awaited them.
"I'm Scarlett, the future Alpha of Cloudranch. I'm still in the final stages of training," she introduced herself, a trace of excitement still evident in her voice despite her efforts to contain it.
"An Alpha?" Sebastian's brow quirked, and his charming dimples accentuated his features, leaving Scarlett momentarily breathless. He was undeniably captivating.
His attention shifted as Zayn entered the room, prompting Scarlett to make the introductions. "Oh, and this is my Beta and best friend, Zayn," she said, placing a hand on Zayn's shoulder.
"Hi, Zayn," Sebastian greeted warmly with a small wave.
"Hello! I'm thrilled to finally meet you!" Zayn extended his hand for a shake, which Sebastian readily accepted. "If there's anything you need, and Scarlett can't assist, count on me! I'm sure we'll get along just fine!"
"Absolutely!" Sebastian grinned in response.
"Zayn's been staying with me, especially during my training, after my parents left," Scarlett explained, her eyes flickering with a mix of emotions, to which Sebastian nodded in understanding.
Zayn, ever enthusiastic, excused himself, leaving Scarlett and Sebastian in the room. Pouring herself a cup of hot milk, she turned her attention back to her mate. "Let me show you around the house. Your room is adjacent to mine, and since you've just arrived, I assume you've come from the lycan monarchy?"
"Indeed," Sebastian confirmed with a nod, his gaze drifting around the room, taking in its details—the clean, warm-toned walls, the white rustic furniture, and the scattered photographs that adorned it. A soft hum escaped his lips.
Curiosity bubbling within her, Scarlett couldn't resist probing further. "Considering the distance, how long did it take you to reach Cloudranch?"
"Well..." Sebastian began, his eyes still surveying the room. "I wasn't precisely there when I commenced my search for you."
"Where were you?" Scarlett pressed, her curiosity piqued.
