Chapter six; Weird

795 Words
Weird "Weird" often describes something that deviates from the ordinary, something that stands out or doesn't fit in with the expected. It can be a person, an object, an idea, or even a situation. The term implies a sense of peculiarity, uniqueness, or even strangeness. It’s what most people called me or thought of me. I wouldn’t say it offends me, it means I’m not a mediocre person. But in this world of mine, being labeled weird was a bad thing, most parents would advise their children to stay away from anything weird. Mother advised us to stay away from weird people or things. So imagine my shock when I met this boy at my favorite spot and he was all about getting to know me. Lucas archman wasn’t a strange boy, he wasn’t secluded like me, I’d imagine he had lots of friends at his school. He wasn’t one from a family of rich heritage, he was just him, he carried so much joy and fun wherever he went and I don’t know why he wanted to get to know me so much. Was he my best friend, he didn’t know much about me to be labeled as such. A friend maybe but I’m not sure that’s how friends work, I can count how many words I’ve spoken to him and to be honest I don’t consider anyone as such. But I must admit, he holds something in my life that counts him as someone more than an acquaintance. He rants to me and I don’t think of it as uncomfortable, his touch doesn’t irritate me and he never judges me. Now that I think of it, he’s the closest person to me and I won’t say he gets me or anything because I myself do not understand me at some point. He just doesn’t interrupt my peace. Everything he does, my heart seems to have no problem with it. ‘Hi , Echo’ he said after I turned to look at him, smiling broadly. I nodded at him. He took that as a sign to sit beside me. ‘You weren’t here last week, look I got the book you’re currently reading, the psychology of money’ he continued. Right I wasn’t here the last Monday, grandfather requested to see us and we were at his place for four days. ‘Not currently, I’m done with that’ I replied. ‘Aww such a shame, I wanted us to match’ he said smiling. ‘But we can fix that, just tell me the name you of your current employer and I’ll get it’ he continued. ‘Employer ?’ I asked. ‘You read as if it’s your job, so any book you’re reading is your employer’ he replied. I’m sure an employer pays you but I let him have his fun. I bent my current book to him and he took a picture. ‘I had the most awkward first day today’, he started. ‘Firstly I woke up late, missed first period, got detention and then this girl tried to profess her love for me during lunch, I had to turn her down in a silent cafeteria and I’m sure we’re now the trending topic of the week’ he said at once. ‘But all is well now since I’ve gotten the privilege to see Mrs echo’ he smiled again. ‘By the way, wasn’t it your father on the news that was seen cheating’ he gasped. I nodded. ‘Damn, that wild. Are you good , do you need a hug’ he said. ‘I don’t need anything ‘ I replied looking at him with a side eye. ‘That’s good to hear’ he said. ‘Here, I got this for you, it’s the best cookie to ever exist, my grandma baked it and I kept one for you’ he continued putting a cookie wrapped in my hand. I looked at him again and looked back at my book. ‘A thank you would do ms echo’ he said. ‘I didn’t ask you for it’ I said Then put the cookie in my mouth and took a bite. I am a very big junk person. The cookies actually tasted nice and I think he noticed that’s what I was thinking of because his smile broadened. I looked at the time and saw it was getting quite late, I got up with the intention to start leaving. He grabbed my hand. ‘I think we see each other as friends now, dont friends share numbers’ he said ‘But we’re not friends’ I replied. ‘Ouch echo, that hurts’ he laughed holding his chest area. ‘I guess I’ll see you later ‘ he said still smiling . I nodded then left. ……….
