CHAPTER2

I don’t know how I survived the bullet or if it was real in the first place. But when I opened my eyes I was no longer in the dark warehouse. The smell of disinfectants made me realize I was in a hospital. The room I was in was empty. I tried to sit up, the pain that tightened around my core made me yelp. A nurse walked in almost immediately and rushed to me. “Hey lay back down, don’t move.” She helped me back unto the bed carefully. Tears had already gathered in my eyes. “How did I get here?” my voice shook and I didn’t hide it. “A young man found you and brought you here.” The nurse answered me, making sure I was laying well. “How are you feeling?” “I’m in pains,” I looked away. “It’s going to be fine. We had to stitch you… that explains why you are in so much pain but you’ll be fine after taking a few pain killers.” She explained taking some pills from a container she came with. He poured some water in a glass and gave me. “You should feel better this.” She smiled, stroking my hair. “Thank you.” I managed to say to her. “Do you have any family member you’ll like to call? When you were found you had no means of identification on you, neither did you have any phone.” “I’ll sort out the bills myself,” I grunted and her eyes softened. “I’s not about the bills dear, the bills have been settled. I was asking in case you wanted to talk to anyone or your family will be getting worried.” I thought about my father. Will he even be worried about me? He might not even have noticed my absence in the first place. There was no one to worry about me or my safety. “I have no family,” I concluded after weighing the people in life and realizing that they were never real to me. They were all fake people. Including my dad. “Oh, I’m so sorry about that.” Her eyes held warmth and pity for me and I almost broke into tears. I looked around the hospital ward. “Who settled the bills… my bills?” I remembered she mentioned my bills being settled. “A gentleman did.” She smiled. Who could that be? Could it be one of them that r***d me? Wait, that’s not possible in the first place right? That would make the men good. Or were they under the influence of a drug or something? Were they forced to do it? I know it was hopeless to believe that there was any good in the men that r***d me but somehow I allowed myself to believe all the good things possible. Like maybe they were drunk- although I didn’t perceive any stench of alcohol from any of them- or were forced to do it in the first place, after realizing their mistake, one of them came back to help me. But then, the man who came after they had gone was slim, or was I hallucinating? There were no bullet holes on my body, only the painful sore from my core. “Did you happen to see him, can you describe him?” I looked at her hopefully. I might be able to get to the bottom of this. “Yes, he was a middle aged man, huge and sexy… he paid your bills after dropping you off.” “Where did he say he found me?” “In one of the dark alleys, he was not sure if you were alive or not. So innocent.” That’s a lie… I was in the warehouse. “Do you happen to know which way he went?” I forced myself out of the bed before she could stop me. “Yeah, but you are not well. You need to stay still.” She tried to change my mind but I was already getting out of the ward. “Hey wait…” “Show me which way he went.” I grabbed her shirt. “Oh, take it easy.” She raised her hands up as if in surrender. “Please,” “That way.” she pointed to the route that led to the alley, the warehouse and my house. The culprit always goes back to the scene of the crime to erase every evidence he might have left there. “Thank you,” I released her dress and began to work towards the alley. It was very bright in the morning, I had nothing to be afraid of. I walked briskly to the alley and then to the warehouse. I crept in and looked around. I went back to the very spot where I was r***d. Tears gathered in my eyes as memories of the scene came flooding my mind. I was almost crying when I heard a noise from the warehouse. I looked up and saw a man running out through the window. Quickly, I followed through the door. He was fast. He looked like the one that had torn me apart. He was the mean one, why is he here? Was he the one who helped me? I kept running after him till I lost him. I screamed in frustration. As I turned around, the pain between my legs became unbearable, I looked down and I realized I was bleeding. I had stretched the stiches and have wounded my core again. I turned in the direction of my house dragged my blood stain hospital dress along with my broken heart. Father was home. He was in his room, on a call. I wanted to just sneak into my room when something he said got my attention. “What? You went back to the warehouse? Why?” I didn’t hear what the other person said but I waited to be sure I was not hearing things. “s**t. Why would you do that? I wanted her dead. After we r***d her and left her last night she was almost dead why did you have to go back and take her to a hospital?” my father seemed very angry but I wondered why what he was saying felt so connected to me and what happened to me. “Who did you r**e and leave to die father?” I stood at the door of his room and he turned to me with eyes wide opened.
