Making the first move

Candy's friends were busy in class. She had finished her classes for the day. She grew tired of sitting in the computer room and decided to go outside and get some fresh air. While sitting on the bench, trying to kill time before her friends were done with their lectures, she decided to text Caleb. It was a good thing that Candy was very good in her description of Caleb and was able to get his number. After typing, deleting,retyping, Candy finally texted. "Hey, my name is Candy. Saw you at the retreat and thought you was cute. Will gave me your number. Hope you don't mind me texting." After hitting the send button, Candy cringed at how lame the message was.

She didn't expect a reply almost instantly, "Hey there, Will did tell me that he had given my number to you. You should have said hi to me in person at the retreat." "Lol I am shy in person," Candy replied. Within a few seconds her phone buzzed again, "Just so you know I am married,"was the reply she got.

Candy wished the Earth could swallow her. She had humiliated herself. She was going to kill Will. How could he not tell this. She did mention to him that she thought he was cute. She quickly text back "Oh my gosh,I am so sorry. This is so embarrassing. I'm just going to go and dig a hole and bury myself in it but not before I kill Will."

Immediately after she hit the send button, his reply came in, "LOL I did type a message to send immediately after my previous message but I saw you typing and wanted to see what your reaction would be. I am married but in the process of getting a divorce. That's why Will didn't think twice about giving you my number."

"Why are you smiling at your phone?" Nikki, who had just returned from her lecture asked. "Long story, will fill you in but not right now. Let's go grab something to eat from the cafeteria. I'm starving,"Candy said. "Silly girl, why did you have to wait for me. You could have gotten something to eat while I was in class you know," Nikki said. "And how boring would that have been. Besides, you know how much I hate eating alone," Candy replied. "Awwww, that's why you're my baby even though you are a few months older,"Nikki teased

Candy grabbed a small portion of chicken Alfredo pasta while Nikki got a pie. While paying for their meals Nikki's phone rang. "Hello,hi ma. Yes I am done with lectures for the day. Okay see you shortly," she said before ending the call. She then turned to Candy and said, "Sorry sweetpea, mum's in the area and wants to fetch me now to avoid having to come back later. Catch up tomorrow,"she said hugging Candy before leaving.

Candy took her pasta and went back to the bench she was sitting on earlier. She unlocked her phone and text back,"yo, you almost gave me a heart attack LOL. By the way if I ended up killing Will before you clarified things, it would have totally been your fault and yours alone! Sorry for the delay in my response. Was starving so went to the cafeteria to grab something to eat." "Thought I scared you off. What's for lunch," he text back.

Just like that, they spent the next few hours texting like they had known each other their entire lives. There was this intense chemistry that lingered but they both downplayed it by pretending that it didn't exist. "Hey, do you mind if we catch up a little later, I am working tonight plus I worked last night and I want to have at least two hours of sleep before I need to get up and get ready for work,"he text. Candy felt awful. She had no idea. She had taken up most of his day keeping him up when he was most likely exhausted after having worked the previous night and now he was going to go to work with only two hours of sleep. "I'm so sorry Caleb I had no idea, it's totally okay. Gosh you should have said something earlier go get some rest now," Candy texted. His response came quickly, "was enjoying myself a little too much to end the conversation. Will chat soon," he added a winking emoji at the end of his message.

It was soon time for Candy to go back home. Since she lived a distance away from her university and because her parents refused to allow her to stay on the campus residence,she had to travel daily. It was roughly around 56 kilometers to get there and another 56 kilometers to get home. It was exhausting. She joined a lift club,which meant that they could only leave campus once every single person had finished with their lectures for the day. As a result of this arrangement,she would have to daily leave home at 6 am to avoid the morning rush and for anyone who had a 8am lecture to make it on time. The afternoons were always a disaster because they were guaranteed to get caught up in the afternoon bumper to bumper peak traffic. That would result in her reaching home around 6 pm.

On the way back Candy scrolled through her messages with Caleb. She was surprised by how much she had learned about him in just a few hours. She learned that he had a middle name which she preferred to call him by Nikolai Candy felt it sounded more sexy and somewhat mysterious and dangerous while Caleb was safe. The name one would use for a good boy. Something inside of her told her that he may be sweet but he was a bit of a bad boy and that's what made him even more attractive to her. Ofcourse she didn't tell that to him. She didn't want him thinking she was bat s**t crazy seeing as it was already bad enough that she had been the one to make the first move.
