Just as he had gone to sleep, Colin woke up with the hump. He was still seething over Martha’s reaction in the pub last night. Being rejected was one thing, but the public humiliation he could do without. He could never show his face in there again. At least, not until those in attendance had forgotten what had taken place. Martha would not forget in a hurry, but he had seen her deal with other blokes in a similar way, so she would doubtless take it all in her stride, so long as he behaved himself in the future.
