Chapter 2: The Knowledge

Elleste woke up in the dark of the night. Her vision still a bit blurry, but after some time, she managed to see everything clearly. It was pitch black outside, and in her room, there was a lamp that could only emit dull lights. She didn't know where she was right now. As if realizing what just happened, Elleste hurriedly supported herself in sitting position and checked her body. She found that someone had cleaned the wound on her head and bandaged it neatly. What shocked was those sctratches on her skin, they were all had gone. The memory of what happened before she was carried in this place flashed before her eyes, and she suddenly felt the depressed feeling build up inside her. This world was extremely unfamiliar, and there were many strong creatures that could kill her without even lifting their finger. She also remembered the man who saved her. What kind of power is that to instantly kill a wolf with just a wave of hand? She didn't know any of that, but, to survive this kind of world, Elleste knew that she should be cautious. More importantly, she should also seek a way to protect herself from now on. The feeling of being toyed to death by another living being wasn't pleasant at all. "You have woken up." A sudden voice almost made her jumped out of her bed. Elleste looked around her dim surroundings only to realized that she wasn't alone all this time. She was surprised that she didn't notice the other party sooner. The voice came from the other side of the room where there was no single light at all. It seemed as if the person was blending into the darkness. "Who are you?" Elleste asked cautiously. She wasn't sent here to be feed into some beast that can talk human language right? The person chuckled as if noticing Elleste's apprehension. The sound didn't sit well with Elleste, it sounded quite creepy that could make one's skin crawl. A dark shadow slowly moved out of the darkness, making Elleste backed away slightly at her bed. However, the person didn't stop until the light finally revealed her figure. She looked thin, but tall. Her eyes seemed gray with the hint of red. Dark hair as dark as the night sky cascading down her waist. She looked beautiful, though there were some mysterious aura that would make people uncomfortable if they stared at her for too long. She looked slighy ghastly, as if death was suurounding her. "Tch, you, new girl here don't need to be afraid. I don't bite," she licked her lips and grinned, showing her pointy teeth that looked as sharp as lioness. She continued, "Unless you wanted me to that is, I won't refuse." Elleste looked more uncomfortable as soon as the girl before her opened her mouth. She didn't say any word. "Am I that scary, huh?" The girl blinked. "Don't be afraid." She yawned. "I am from undead race. Judging from your expression, you must be from those small villages that you don't seem to know about other races. Ah, and my name is Arlina Messa. Just call me Arlina." "What is your name?" She asked, suddenly directed her gaze to Elleste who was huddling on the edge of the bed near the wall. She was a bit hesistant, but after thinking that no one would recognize her even if she did state her name, she finally just sighed. "I am Elleste Lunaria. Just call me Elleste." Looking at the girl before her, Elleste didn't find any ill intentions from her, so she relaxed a bit although she still put her guard up. She remembered the vampire from her past life and the girl in front of her was probably one of those kind? This fact also made Elleste to be more cautious. After all, those vampire suck blood, didn't they? She didn't know about this undead race, but she just wanted to prepare just in case. Thinking back, Elleste didn't know what happened to her original body in the modern world. Strangely, if she thought further about it, suddenly appearing in a completely different world didn't feel so depressing anymore. Elleste frowned slightly. She found this feeling quite weird though. A new environment was bound to bring some changes that could make someone who wasn't used to new things uncomfortable. This feeling wasn't that strong on her, though she admitted that she didn't have any real attachment in her previous life. Yes, she was now referring modern world as her previous life. She knew that she was probably already dead there, and her soul being sent her was the result of that. "Hey, what are you thinking?" Noticing that Elleste was in daze, Arlina curiously asked. Elleste was snapped out of her dazed state by Arlina's loud voice. She was about to speak when Arlina suddenly cut her off. "Ah, I forgot about you humans. Before you practice any profession, you are so weak compared to other races." Arlina looked at Elleste thoughtfully. Then, her gaze landed at the bandage on her head. The gaze made Elleste felt alarmed. She just realized that probably there was still some smear of blood on the wound though it was already bandaged neatly. She looked at Arlina with great caution. Arlina suddenly moved back into the dark part of the room, making Elleste's body almost jolt. When she came back, Arlina was holding a tray of food. "Eat all of this. You must've run out of energy after getting chased by those dark creatures all day. A mage found you in the brink of death earlier." "A mage?" Elleste was slightly stunned. However, she didn't refuse the tray. There was something like noodles on it, some strange fruits and a glass of water. She was indeed hungry. Arlina raised her eyebrow. "Eh, the people from your human village didn't tell you anything about outside world, huh?" After a few moments, she suddenly just shook her head. "Forget it, there are some villages that are too far away and hide themselves deep in the forest. You are probably part of those villages and..." Arlina didn't say her next word, "If you want to know about something, just ask me." Elleste pondered about if for a moment before she asked her. "How can a human be powerful?" Arline began to explain it to Elleste. "Humans main profession was divided into four parts: mages, swordsman, healer, and warrior. Mages deal with magic, swordsman trained with swords, healer's job was to study medicine and sometimes they can also cast some healing spells. As for warrior, their purpose is to participate in battle and safety of human race. "Each of them divided into nine stages. The stages after the ninth is the sacred realm. There are too few people in this realm as it was difficult to ascend to each realm. There is also a legendary realm, the divine realm. As for this one, it was unknown whether there has been anyone who reach this on this day." After she finished, Arlina looked at Elleste. "What kind of profession do you want to chose?" Elleste pondered for a while, then she asked. "What stage did the mage who saved me has reached?" Arlina's eyes lit up. "So, you are interested in becoming mage, huh? Those human mages are really cool. Hmm ... as for the man who saved you, I think that his name is Ferlan. If I am not wrong, he should be at third stage mage." Elleste nodded as she listened to Arlina's explanation. After spending some time together, she found that Arlina's personality wasn't that bad. "How about other races? How may races out there?" Elleste asked again. She knew that in order to survive, she has to gain knowledge about anything in this world. Arlina's knowledge of humans also suprised Elleste slightly despite her being an undead. Arlina pinched her nose slightly as if she had trouble answering her. "I am not really certain since there are also a lot of strange existences that sometimes appear. They didn't belong to any races. Some small races are too many to be mentioned. However, I can tell you about some big races." "There are humans. You are one, so you must've know about your own race. Second, the undead. We are improving our power through death energy from the deaths. That was our specialty. We also sometimes drink blood though we eat ordinary food more often." "The dark creatures, demons, and monsters, they are filled with beasts of countless kind. They sometimes hunted the undead and humans to make themselves stronger. The last one is shifter. Shifter do not belong to dark creatures kind because they can turn into humans, while those dark creatures can't." Elleste listened attentively as she tried to digest every information carefully and make sure that she remembered all of them. Now, she was trapped in a completely different world. In order to survive, she should learn everything about this world first.
