Frosty the werewolf

Devin POV I ran as fast as my legs would take me, turning corners at random. Finally, I paused by a park bench. What on earth had I been thinking? I had been about to mark a witch. I have no idea what kind of magic had been done on me. But a bite was forever. If not for that little star on her neck next to her marking spot, I would now have a mate I would be told to kill. Wisdom was howling in my head. "Take me back to my mate!" he ordered. "No, and she was not our mate. She is a witch and that was magic. I just didn't know the witches had a way to mimic the matebond. We are lucky we got away." "Mate is sad." "Yes, probably because her plan did not work." I knew my words made sense, but I wasn't sure I was right. Was it magic? What if she really is my mate? Would the Moon Goddess do that? Could a witch be the mate of a wolf? What if I just ran away from my one and only? I could still smell her on my skin and I felt a pull to go back that was not just coming from Wisdom. Had anyone ever felt so good in his arms? Smelled as enticingly? Would anyone ever compare now? I started heading home, ignoring the looks I got from people along the way. Once I arrived at my cabin, I quickly showered and changed. Then I went to the pack library to search for love spells. Annoyingly enough, I was not alone in the room. Ruby and Zienna were there. They were basically groupies. They would ideally want to land James, our alpha. But since he was happily mated, they had moved on to me, the beta of our pack. They made signs they were heading over, so I said I had lots to research and brought the books to my house. We did not have a book with lovespells exclusively, but I grabbed what we had on witchcraft. Roughly 20 books. None written by an actual witch. Instead, they were collections of accounts from werewolves, humans and other allied species. From the werewolves, there were no references to a lovespell ever having been performed on them. At least not successfully. No wolf had ever ended up mated to a witch, from what I could tell. The books were obviously very negatively inclined towards witches, so I doubted anyone would want that matebond documented. Had the witches learned a new ability? I really should warn James. And yet I did not. If I told them there was a witch on packland they would hunt her, probably kill her. I really did not want that. I resolved to observe her myself. I would bring her in if I saw that she was indeed involved in nefarious deeds which included getting a werewolf to mate with her.
