Abi had been working almost everyday on writing the program designed to hack into the chips. With the Prophet's arrest it had become more of a necessity to find a way to make a mark in the rebellion before it was too late. Abi was unchanged over the last four months. She had not gained a new hair color or modified her body at all. She had just been working. Spending time with Cleo. Keeping her brother from going insane with the Spark propaganda he had been working on. "Solo? Here again?" Blue asked smirking pressing his hands firmly on her shoulders making her jump.
"f**k Arro you could kill someone doing that!" She exclaimed.
"Good to see your reflexes are fine." He joked sitting in the spare seat next to her set up. "You are here all the time, do you not have a life?"
"Can't all have a pregnant wife at home to look after." Abi replied turning back to her monitor.
"Yeah she needs me to look after her, you've met her right?" He joked. His attention was drawn to her screen. "Holy-" He stopped himself, "Abs this looks good." He said surprised, "I need to step up my game or you'll be taking my job."
"Doubtful." She replied. Over the last few months she had been working closely with Blue. They both had a talent at getting into information that they shouldn't be able to get a way into. He was insane, he could hack so fast that its a wonder he ever got caught doing anything. He could probably hack into the chips on the fly. It would be dangerous and he was far too cautious for that but she could see why he had the position he held. The more she had been working with the online system Red had created, going deeper into the program itself and learning the finite points of it, it was insane. She could see why Red treated this system like her baby. There were codes that lead to no where. Files for fake people that alerted if hacked into. It was like a spiders web crossed with a hall of mirrors. Abi had never seen something like this before. It was like a video game that you had to hack your way through. And 9 times out of 10 you found a dead end. Red and Joker had been working on adding a new section onto this system, the system was to cover their backs when they did manage to get into the chips. It was if anyone attempted to back hack them they would be led to a bunch of no wheres. It was taking them a long time. The trails had to look like they were leading somewhere. It was delicate and took a lot of time. It seemed like they were making no progress even though each day they seemed to create something new to add into the program. Abi and Blue felt the same. He had written a virus. It was beautiful in its creation if he placed it into a program it would pull data back to HazNet. HazNet would remove any corrupt or infected data and send it back to where it had been brought from. In theory everything left was clean. It needed to have a layer of soft were protection on it which was what Abi was working on. This was more Red's area of expertise but never the less it seemed to be coming together.
"How long do you think you have left to write before we can combine it to my virus?" He asked.
"I don't know. I want Red to have a look at it first this is her specialty."
"What is?" Red said walking in pulling up an empty chair.
"The protection that Abi is writing for my virus." Blue said pointing to the screen. "What do you think?"
"In theory..." Red looked, "should work but... it needs testing."
"How?" Abi asked.
"Abs, do you like money?" Blue said looking at Red who laughed.
"Erm, yeah?"
"Tomorrow baby?" He asked.
"I can't tomorrow you two go ahead. It wont be the first time you've hacked into a bank love." She said kissing the top of his head.
"Hacking a bank?" Abi was confused.
"Yeah, how do you think we get money for the Few? The banks always keep a surplus, loans and stuff so we just take that. Never anyone's hard earned money." He replied. "If a grand or two falls out of an Alliance Governors account though that's different."
"We must have taken near a million from Greg Brookes over the last 3 years and he has never even noticed." Red replied, "that's how rich the Alliance Governor of the United States is. Doesn't even see a million going missing." She adds.
"Oh can we steal from the UK this time? You know I get a kick out of that."
"No I wouldn't." She was still clearly on edge that someone from the Alliance was looking into her. "Ireland?"
"Deal." He replied. "So Abs, a bank or a Governor?" He asked.
"I like the idea of a bank." She said, "seems less dangerous for a first run of something I don't know if its going to work."
"Fair enough." Red said standing, "Jet has finished with his shoot." She remarked looking around the room. There were a few members around but the communal hacking area was not busy. "I am going to go to my office because this little Miss or Mr is making me feel really sick today. And I think I am starting to feel some movement."
"WHAT!?" Blue stood excited.
"I can feel it, because it is using my insides like I am a bloody washing machine Arro, the moment it becomes full on kicks you will be the first to know dont worry my love." She smirked.
"Does it feel strange?" Abi asked.
"You know when you are holding in a fart? And you can literally feel it in your stomach?" Abi nodded, "its like that but it doesn't go away when you do fart." She said laughing.
"I thought pregnancy was meant to be beautiful?" Blue asked, "so far it has been you throwing up, you having gas, you feeling sleepy, you having mood swings. And I know that it'll all end with blood, screaming and god knows what else."
"And then we will have a crapping, crying machine to look after." Red said smiling, "I best go, I feel like the smell of the stale sweat around here is making me feel sick." She kissed the top of Blue's head and walked to her office on the platforms above.
"You really need to cool it Blue." Jet said calmly, "you're going to blow it."
"I don't know how relax with this, I am going to be a D.A.D."
"Don't think anyone will crack that code Schultz." Abi replied turning back to her program. "I thought you were smart?"
"Intelligent and smart are very different things." He said smiling, "I have the best education money could buy but I am no where near smart." He replied laughing.
"Oh what it must have been like to grow up rich." Jet said sarcastically.
"Oh it was amazing, having every part of my life planned by everyone around me. Oh the dream!" He said as sarcastically, "i'm here now, same as you. And clearly my premium education means nothing here." He added.
"Yeah Abi's come in one step behind you with our government issued basic education."
"Yeah well I don't think my knowledge on Jacobean poetry will help me much in this job."
"Your what?" Abi asked.
"Exactly." Blue replied standing. "Now if you don't mind I will be going to check on my wife." He said smiling, "Abs, you are doing great and don't worry about tomorrow I will help you through it. Just enjoy it for what it is yeah?"
"Yeah, thanks Arro," she replied smiling.
Blue walked away and up the Red's office, who had pulled the drapes shut. "What was that about?" Jet asked.
"Arro and I are testing out the virus tomorrow." She explained, "so we have to hack into somewhere to test it."
"Okay?"
"A bank."
"s**t? Are you going to rob it?" Jet asked.
"Yeah." Abi replied looking over her program, "they have a lot of faith in me Jet. What if this isn't as good as it needs to be?"
"Then you will work on it until it is." He said, "they wouldn't have asked you to do it if they didn't think you were capable. And look, when Red was missing and recovering in the medical unit who did Blue ask to support him through it? You, he could have asked anyone else down here but he trusts you. We've been here 6 months Abs and you are already a known threat to anyone wanting to become a level 1 someday."
"Yeah well what about you? The face of the Spark."
"Yeah about that." He said simply, "King has asked Mona and me to go to his apartment for a dinner party tomorrow."
"A dinner party? Isn't that something that middle-aged 4 lettered conformists do to brag to their other middle-aged 4 letter conformist friends about how well off they are?" Abi asked.
"My thoughts exactly. Some of the pack will be there... Do you think they are trying to recruit us again?"
"Well they never tried to get me." She said.
"I've thought about that." He replied. "They want Red for whatever reason, if she left and joined the Pack Arro would throw a fit, but if you were being trained up by Red and were able to take her place..."
"Then he may not be as against her going?" Abi asked, "but she would have to work with Joker more and we all know how Arro feels about that." She added.
"Yeah, how is he coping with them working together on this program?"
"They see each other as little as possible." Abi explained, "they don't need to see each other I guess."
Jet nodded and looked at his phone, "oh and we have to dress appropriately, what does that mean?" He asked.
"Suit?" She said stifling a laugh.
"Fuck." Jet replied. "I think I need to be drunk before I even step foot in that place." He joked.
"May help." She replied, "however maybe a good thing to scope out the rest of the Pack, you know you've not met the four suits yet." She remarked.
"True." He said chirpily. "I wonder what they are like?" He thought long about this. "I've met Ace and Jack and well..."
"I can imagine." She said smirking. "If the three I have met are anything to go by." She laughed. "King is well..."
"Different."
"Queen is..."
"Un-hinged." He interrupted.
"And Joker is..."
"A sociopath." He added smiling. "Jack was up King and Boss' ass, and Ace he was like a walking bulldozer."
"Ah," Abi replied. "I hope you and Red know what you're getting yourself into."
"I dont think either of us ever know what we are doing."
