Chapter Nine - Dandelion

3023 Words
So... was someone to going to let me out? It sounded like Evan was going to let me go, but instead he disappeared with my mom.   “Ummm.... is someone going to let me go?” I asked looking at the window which I knew by now was a two-way mirror. I didn’t hear anything and then heard the door to my room opening.   “I don’t know if I should.” It was Harry.   “I’m not a threat Harry. Can you at least just remove the restraints so I can sit up?” I asked. Harry hesitated and took step towards me. “Please?” He sighed, hesitated again, and then came over to the bed. He just stood there and stared at me.   “I don’t really know what you are to Evan, but I can guarantee if you hurt him in any way, shape or form I will end your life,” he said. I nodded and he undid the restraints around my wrists, ankles and waist.   I sat up and rubbed my wrists as I said, “Thanks.” Harry nodded and sat down on the chair at the bed side.   “So what the hell was that about? That old lady said that she was your mom,” Harry said looking over his shoulder.   “I don’t know either. As far as I knew, my mother left us,” I said looking longingly at the door.   “She left you... and now she’s back?” Harry turned back towards. “Please, I’m all ears. I have no where to go right now.” I sighed and explained to Harry my childhood.   I had grown up with my father and my mother in the Red Moon Pack. They loved one another and were not ever not near one another. I had always known my mom was different because the wolves in the pack whispered, but as much as they whispered about her, they loved her just as much, if not more. When I had turned eight my mom vanished the last night she ever tucked me in. She pulled the covers up over my shoulders, kissed me three times on the nose like she always did, said ‘I love you’, and left my room. I never saw her again.   “So she just left? No note no nothing?” Harry asked. I nodded. “Whew, that’s a tough pill to swallow.”   “Not as tough as finding out your so-called mate killed your dad,” I said to Harry.   “It had to be done,” Harry said, “he betrayed this pack.”   “And you know of this betrayal how?” I asked arching my eyebrows at him.   “Because Alpha Evan said he betrayed us. What the Alpha says goes. We don’t question him. We follow him,” Harry said standing up. He started pacing up and down the room. “There’s one thing I don’t quite understand though.”   “And what’s that?” I asked.   “Didn’t your mom fear the sun? I thought vampires turned to ash in direct sunlight. I mean... they can lurk in the shadows, but if the sun hit any part of them that part would turn to ash.”   “I don’t know Harry,” I said hanging my head and looking at the ground. “She would go on walks with us and she would sit by the river with me behind our house. But she never ate with us and now I know why.” Because she’s a vampire and never told me.   “Well... did your dad ever know?”   “Of course he would’ve known she was a vampire.”   “I’m surprised there weren’t any unsolved murders in your pack,” Harry scoffed. “Their lust for blood is unsatiable.”   “There weren’t ever any murders. No one ever reported anything out of the ordinary to my dad.” The door opened and Harry and I turned to look. Evan stepped in the room and Harry stood up.   “Alpha,” Harry said bowing. He stared at me and noticed I was not restrained.   “What happened? Why is she out of the restraints?” Evan asked turning to Harry.  “She wasn’t a threat so I let her out of them,” Harry said.   “She is a threat,” Evan snarled at Harry. Harry stepped up to Evan and they squared off.   “I’m your Beta and I wouldn’t make an informed decision like that Evan,” Harry growled.   “And I’m your Alpha and you went against my order to keep her restrained,” Evan growled back. They kept standing toe to toe and extended to their full height standing as tall as they could. Harry finally backed down and sat down on the chair again.   “What do you want me to do Evan. She’s not a danger to us or herself,” Harry said waving in my direction.   “Whatever. I should punish you for not following orders. No one ordered you to release her from the restraints,” Evan said.   “Then punish me,” Harry said, “because I’m quite tired of this game whatever it is. First you say she’s your mate, then you tie her up in this room, you let her out, and then you tie her up again. That’s not how to you treat a mate even if she didn’t want to be with you.” Harry got up from the chair and walked to the door. “That’s not how I would treat my mate even if she hated me.” With that Harry walked out of the room and it was just Evan and I.   Evan let out a sigh of relief and stood there looking at the door with his hands on his hips. I moved around on the bed and Evan turned around to me.   “Do you know what kind of trouble you just put my pack in?” Evan asked walking over to me.   “I’m not sure I follow,” I said slowly. “Where’s my mom?”   “Your mom, or Mama Rosa, went back to her tent,” Evan said. “She said she will be back tomorrow morning although she was supposed to show up tonight to meet with you? What was this meeting about? Plotting to murder me?”   “What the f**k are you talking about?” I spat out at him getting really pissed off. “I haven’t seen my mom for 17 years! The last thing I want to do is murder you! You’ve got some nerve you bastard!”   “You can leave,” Evan said.   “And go where?” I asked.   “Anywhere. Just get out of my sight,” Evan said.   I got up to leave and stopped at the door, turned around and said to Evan, “You know, Harry’s right. Even if I hated my mate I wouldn’t lock him up like you did to me. You said I’m not your prisoner, but you’ve locked me up the first night I was brought here.” I left the room and went to find my mom.   *****  She was right. The first time she was ever on pack lands I had locked her up. First in my private suite upstairs, then in this room, in my suite again, and now back in this room. I didn’t know if I hated her, but I didn’t love her. At least not yet. I yearned for her. Malcolm yearned for Bella. We both wanted our mate, but when she was trying to kill herself constantly... what the f**k could I do? Just let her die? I couldn’t and I wouldn’t. I would do anything to keep her safe and I knew I would. But how do I keep her safe from herself?   She fascinated me with defying me. She made me curious to know who she was. But she never opened those doors for me. She would whenever I’d make her body feel good, but not when it didn’t involve some form of s*x. And damn... she tasted good. When I walked in the room all I wanted to do was let her out of those restraints and hold her in my arms and ask if she was okay. But when I had seen that Harry had already done what I had planned to do I was furious. Harry was my Beta and he doesn’t make decisions unless I asked him to. I know I can trust him, but damn that man. Always doing s**t behind my back like this.   “Go after her,” Malcolm whined. “I can’t take it anymore. I need to be close to Bella.”   “And say what to her? Should I apologize to her for being so reckless and careless?” I said angrily to Malcolm.  “Yeah, you should man.” I turned around and Alex was standing there with Allie.   “Oh... you startled me. I didn’t think you were here.”   “I was in the next room remember? With Harry?” Alex said.   I put my hands over my face and sighed, “Sorry, I forgot.”   “You should go after her,” Alex said. “It’s the right thing to do man.”  “I don’t know Alex,” I said. “She’s so frustrating!”  “And she’s just going to frustrate you even more,” Alex said placing a hand on my shoulder. I looked at him and he turned to look at Allie who was still standing in the door way. “She’s going to frustrate you to hell and back, but you will always be pulled to her. No matter how pissed off she gets you, the more she pisses you off, the more you want her.”   “Eww... gross. What happened to the big bad wolf?” I said pushing his hand off my shoulder.  “He got tamed by little red riding hood,” Alex said grinning. Allie blushed and turned her head away.   “You really got a good one huh?” I asked him. He nodded. “I’m happy for you. You too Allie.” She turned back to us and blinked expressionless. “I’m glad you’re in his life. He was all big and bad and then what do you know? p***y whipped.”   “f**k you man,” Alex said as he pushed me and went back to Allie. He took her right hand and brought it up to his lips and kissed the back of her hand.   “Evan,” Allie said, “go after her. She’s frustrating, yes, but that’s the Hannah I know. She thought she lost her mom forever and now her mom is back. There’s a lot of emotions right now, but she needs someone with her.”   “Thanks guys,” I said as I headed out the door side stepping both of them. “You coming?”   “Nah... we’ll stay in here for a while,” Alex said raising his eyebrows at Allie.   “Oh my god, shut up you horn dog,” Allie said playfully hitting Alex on the shoulder.   “Restraints baby girl,” Alex said teasing her. Allie giggled as I walked out of the door in my hunt for Hannah.   *****  I wanted to after my mom, but right now I didn’t know how to feel. I thought she had walked out on my dad and I forever. Then Allie said that she left me to protect me and died doing so. If she’s dead then why was she standing in front of me? And of all things she challenged Alpha Evan. I sighed and as I made my way out of the front doors of the pack house night was starting to take over. I could hear the crickets start singing and bugs start humming. The night sounds started to take over and stars started peeking out of the navy blue sky. One star, two, and then the whole sky was littered with glitter.   I sat down on the front steps and sighed.   “What am I going to do Bella?” I whispered. “Is that really her?”  “I believe it’s her,” Bella said confidently. “It’s her scent. Roses and leather. Soft, but tough.” I shook my head in disbelief and put my head in-between my knees. It’s not that I didn’t believe my own wolf, but I was just in shock that my mom was here. She was right in front of me. My body started trembling and I fought back my tears so hard. I was holding my breath and shaking. Then I just let it all out. All the pain I had been holding in my heart, all the hope I had been believing in all these years that she wasn’t dead, all the agony I watch my father go through when she never returned. It all just came pouring out and before I knew it was ugly crying on the front steps of the Three Wolves’ pack house. I didn’t give a flying f**k who was there and could see and hear me.   “Everything hurts Bella,” I said through sobs. “How could she do this to me? To my dad? And now he’s dead. Does she even know?”   “It’s okay,” Bella said crying along with me. She was howling and her pain was as great as mine.   “Why is this happening to me,” I sobbed.  “To us,” Bella howled. We sobbed with one another and although I knew that I was never alone because I had my wolf, in this moment I felt so alone. My dad was dead and my mother? I just kept on thinking about how to feel that I got so annoyed with myself.   “Argh!” I screamed as I reared my head up.   “Whoa.” I turned and glared at whoever had the audacity to approach me. “Hey, it’s just me.” Evan held up his hands as he walked slowly towards me. “Can I sit with you?”   “It’s your f*****g house,” mumbled.   “It’s the pack’s house,” he said. “I live somewhere else. I’m only here I need to be so I have my own suite. Harry and Alex live here and the omega’s have their own living floor.”   “Look, I don’t need a history lesson on your pack house right now. Just leave me alone,” I said turning away from him.   “I just wanted to make sure you were okay,” Evan said.   “I don’t give a s**t what you’re doing. Didn’t you tell me to leave?” I asked angrily. “Why are you here?”   Evan sat down next to me and sighed, “I’m sorry okay. I shouldn’t have been so hard on you.”   “Wow. Alpha Evan apologizing,” I scoffed. “Apology not accepted. Get over yourself.”   “Is that how you accept an apology,” Evan said his voice getting angry. “I can tolerate your berating for only so long.”   “Well aren’t you lucky then,” I said.   “Hannah-”  “Don’t Evan,” I said standing up. “If you aren’t leaving, then I will.”   “And where will you go?”  “Anywhere but here!” I screamed at him and ran off down the driveway.   “Argh. Hannah!” Evan yelled and ran after me. He grabbed a hold of my arm and swung me around to face him. “Hannah!”   “What the f**k do you want from me?” I asked as I started sobbing. “Just leave me alone. I just want everyone to leave me alone. Don’t you get it? All of this... it’s all f****d up. I can’t handle it. I just can’t.” I sunk down to my knees as he held onto my arms.   “I want you,” Evan said. “I want you to let me in.”   I couldn’t believe this. I was vulnerable right now and he was trying to console me. He wanted me to break down my walls for him.   I shook my head and said, “I can’t Evan. There’s too much going on right now. Another wall has been built because all this time I thought my mom was probably dead. Now she’s here. I don’t know how to take this all in.”   “I don’t want you to let me in right this minute,” Evan said. He got down beside me and tilted my head up. His thumbs wiped away the tears that seemed to not stop. “Just let me in when you’re ready to. I’ll wait.”   I nodded and turned my head away from him.   “Hey,” Evan said turning me back to look at him, “don’t.”   “I... I look so gross right now,” I chuckled thinking about how I probably had tears mixed with snot.   “You don’t. You look beautiful,” Evan said looking into my eyes. His thumbs wiped away my tears again. I felt his right hand caress my face as he tucked my hair behind my ear. I looked into his eyes and they seemed to be inviting me in.   “Evan,” I whispered. I don’t know what came over me, but the way he was caressing my face and looking at me, I was overwhelmed with emotion that I leaned over and kissed him. He seemed shocked at first, but then started kissing me back.   He broke away from our kiss and said, “That’s probably the first time you kissed me.”   “I think so too,” I said as I took him back onto my lips. The kisses were slow with no tongue, but then they intensified. I opened my mouth and invited his tongue in swirling around like how I would on his c**k.   “Umm... Hannah,” Evan said.   “What?” I asked between breaths. Evan stopped and looked up. Again, we had drawn a crowd. People were whispering and pointing, but they all had big smiles on their faces. We heard a couple of giggles too. I could feel my face getting hot and buried my face into the crook of Evan’s neck.   “Go Alpha Evan!” someone shouted from the crowd.  “Woot woot!”   “That’s how you kiss a lady!”   Evan stood me up with him and wrapped his arm around me to shield me from the crowd.   “Okay everyone,” Evan said, “go home. It’s late.”   “Aww...,” the crowed moaned as they dispersed.   I felt some tugging on jeans and looked down. There was a little girl looking up at me with big brown eyes. She held out a dandelion and I took it. She smiled, giggled, and then ran away towards a couple who were probably her mom and dad. The mom smiled at me and waved then turned to her daughter.   “Did you see me mom? She took my flower,” I heard the little girl giggle. “The pretty girl took my flower.”   “I see that honey,” the mom said, “you were so brave to go up to her and give her the flower yourself.” More giggles from her and they walked into the pack house.   I looked at the dandelion in my hand and then looked up at Evan. His eyes were full of... was it love? No, it was full of something. They were clouded over, but not pitch black with lust. They were gray like storm clouds, but soft. He bent down and gave me a kiss on the nose. I looked up at him and gave him a soft kiss on the lips. He didn’t step back and I could feel a smile from him form on my lips.   “What do you say? Do you want to go home?” Evan asked me.   “Home?” I asked him confused.   “Our home,” Evan said again this time nuzzling the back of my neck. He left a soft light kiss there that made my whole spine tingle. I shuddered against him. “Is that a yes?”   I looked up at Evan and nodded, “Yes, let’s go home."
