Hannah: The Red Moon

Chapter Eight - Mama Rosa

I watched her run around the tent and then she was gone. I wanted to chase after her, but Mama Rosa stopped me.  

“She will be okay Alpha,” Mama Rosa said as she walked me into the tent with Harry trailing behind. She gestured for me to sit and I did with Harry standing off to the side. “There’s a chair over there Beta if you wish to sit instead of stand.”  

“I’ll be fine,” Harry said.  

“I think you should sit for this,” Mama Rosa said. “I was about to tell the girl, but both of you interrupted.”  

“What were you going to tell her,” I asked narrowing my eyes at Mama Rosa.  

“Who she is and why she is,” Mama Rosa answered narrowing her eyes at me. “And who she is to you and who you are to her.”  

“Go on,” I said. Harry found the chair and pulled it up beside me. I nodded at him that it was a good idea for him to sit too.  

“Alpha, has your father ever told you why the Red Moon’s first daughter is always promised to the Three Wolves’ Pack” Mama Rosa asked me.  

I shook my head, “He didn’t before he passed. All he told me is that Alpha Jackson’s daughter was promised to us and that he needed to deliver her by her 18th birthday. But it was way past that and I was too busy with my dad being sick and preparing for his departure to meet the Moon Goddess that so much time passed by.”  

“Seven years,” Mama Rosa said, “seven years you went without your moon. Did you ever feel the pull towards her? Did you ever feel someone was missing from you?”  

“Yes, someone or something. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it until I felt her. Until the day we demolished the Red Moon pack and I killed Alpha Jackson,” I told Mama Rosa. “I felt her. I could feel the pull towards her, but I didn’t even know what she looked like. But when my eyes saw her, I knew she was mine. Even though she was promised to me as the eldest son of the Alpha.”  

“Alpha Evan, what I am about to tell you is not for the faint of heart,” Mama Rosa said. “Beta, if anyone comes through those doors and hears this tale, you are to kill him. Got it?”  

“I don’t take orders from you,” Harry snarled at her.  

“Alpha, I need your Beta to comply with my request. These words are for you and the girl alone. Even your Beta cannot hear them lest he wants to kill himself,” Mama Rosa raised an eyebrow at Harry.  

“Harry, guard the tent. Tell Alex to help guard too. I do not want to be disturbed until I hear all I need to hear,” I commanded Harry.  

Harry stood up and bowed, “Yes my Alpha. As you command.” Harry left with a quickness and I could feel him walking around the tent making sure no one was within ear shot.  

“He needs to be farther out my Alpha,” Mama Rosa said, “at least where he cannot her us.”  

“Harry,” I mind linked him, “can you hear Mama Rosa and I talking?”  

“Kind of,” Harry mind linked back.  

“Go farther where you cannot hear our voices and guard from there okay?”  

“Yes Alpha. What about you Alex?”  

“He needs to guard from similar feet away from the tent as well. No one can hear this except Hannah and I.”  

“Yes Alpha. I’ll tell Alex.”  

I nodded at Mama Rosa and said, “You have it your way. Now what is this I need to know?”

I walked out of that tent in a half stupor. I couldn’t believe all the things Mama Rosa told me. How could this be? Why could this be? Who could I be!?  

“Harry!” I yelled. He showed up at my side right away. “Find Hannah and drag her ass back to the pack house. Lock her up in my suite and make sure she has no way out.” 

“Why-” Harry started to ask.  

“No questions,” I cut him off. “She needs to be where I know she’s safe. In fact, don’t put her in my suite. Lock her back up down in the basement. She is not to harm herself either so she needs to be restrained.”  

“Yes Alpha,” Harry said. He shifted as he went searching for Hannah. I shifted and ran back to the pack house full speed to prepare for Hannah’s arrival.

I heard paws crunching behind me and turned to look. It was Harry. He nudged me to get up and follow him. When I didn’t budge, he nudged me again.  

“No, I’m not going to that dimwit,” I told Harry. “He totally made a fool out of me earlier.” Harry started to whine for me to follow him. Again, I didn’t budge and this time Harry started to growl. He came at me with his jaw snapping, showing his teeth, and pushing me to stand up.  

“Get up and move Hannah,” Bella told me, “he’s not playing and now he’s really mad. His Alpha commanded him to find you and get you back to the pack house.”  

“The hell I’m going back there,” I said to Bella. 

“Go, something's not right,” Bella said.  

“But it’s such a long walk back,” I started to protest. “Let me just sit here a bit longer.”  

“Time is of the essence. You need to shift,” Bella said. “We are strong enough and your bones are healed.”  

“I haven’t shifted in a long time. I’m scared,” I whimpered.  

“I’ll be in charge once you shift,” Bella said, “don’t be scared. We’ll be together.” I nodded and then I could feel the shifting of bones and Bella coming to the forefront. Harry got startled as he wasn’t expecting me to shift and he clamored backward out of the way. Every bone in my body was either expanding or breaking to make room for the muscles in my body which were expanding. I could feel every inch of pain it brought me, but I knew once I shifted to my wolf Bella, everything would be okay.  

Bella nodded to Harry as she sprinted off towards the pack house. She kept up with Harry as best as she could and once we all made it back to the pack house, she was reluctant to shift back to human form.  

“I’ve missed that,” Bella said to me once we shifted back, “running free in the forest without a care in the world.”  

“I know. I missed it too Belle,” I said to her. “If and when we’re more comfortable either here or anywhere you can run as much as you want for as long as you want. Promise.”  

“Thank you Hannah,” Bella said. “Now if you don’t mind, I’m going to take a nap.” I chuckled as I could see her laying down and her tail curling up behind her hind legs.  

“Harry!” I turned around and saw Evan pounding down the stairs his face hot with anger. “You let her shift!?”  

“Alpha, it was faster if she shifted. Plus, I was surprised just as you were,” Harry replied. He had went inside in his wolf form and came back out in human form with shorts and a tank top on.  

“Bring her inside,” Evan commanded. “Basement. Now.”  

Basement? Why was I going back into that damn basement.  

“What’s going on?” I asked Harry as he took me by the arm. He shrugged and had to make it look like he was dragging me along, but I was willingly following him. We walked down a flight of stairs and I was back in the bright white hall with the bright white lights.  

“Here,” Evan said as he opened the door to the same room I had been held in before. “Tie her down.”  

“What?” I asked nervously. “Tie... tie me down? Wha.... why?” 

“Because if I don’t then you’re going to kill me. Is that what was promised of you to my pack? That you were promised to come here and kill me!?” Evan demanded to know.  

“What are you talking about!?” I asked as Harry dragged me to the bed. I started kicking and screaming for him to let me go, but all of a sudden Alex was in the room too. With Alex holding me down on the bed, Harry restrained my arms and my legs, then he restrained me by the waist.  

“Get out. All of you,” Evan said to Harry and Alex. I watched as they both bowed and left the room. Then I looked at Evan who was standing at the foot of the bed glaring at me. “Who are you?”  

“What do you mean who am I? You should know. You kidnapped me and now you’re holding me against my own will,” I spat out at Evan. “Who the f**k are you that you think you can do this to me!?”  

“I’m the big bad Alpha, but trust me... you haven’t seen bad yet,” Evan spit back out at me. “Who was your mom?”  

I looked at Evan and opened my mouth to speak, but instead I clamped my mouth shut. Why was he asking about my mom all of a sudden.  

“Your mom. Who was she?” Evan asked again.  

“She... she..., “ I muttered. What do I even say to him. She was my mom. What the hell was he trying to get at?  

“Hannah, I’m not asking anymore. I’m commanding,” Evan said coming around to the side of the bed. He cupped my chin tight and I could feel a little pain as he pulled my face up. I could feel tears falling down the sides of my eyes and my bottom lip trembled in his clutch.  

“She’s my mom,” I whispered.  

“Did she ever eat with you and your dad?” I shook my head. “Did she always disappear for hours at night after you fell asleep?” I nodded. “Did she ever tell you that she was a vampire?” I could feel my eyes widen at this revelation and froze under Evan’s grasp. I held my breath and I could feel my body tremor all over.  

“She... she’s a what?” I sputtered out. This time my body was flailing uncontrollably. I started to black in and out. I could feel myself heating up again. No lust or anger. Just complete confusion and felt this heat enveloping me like it wanted to protect me.  

“Hannah,” I could faintly hear Evan as he said my name. “Hannah, wake up.”  

“Hannah,” Bella said as she woke up, “what’s going on.”  

“I c-c-c-can't feel my body Belle,” I sputtered to her. I knew I was talking out loud because I could see Evan’s eyes go wide. I could see him yelling and then Harry and Alex were back in the room.  

“No Hannah, don’t go like this,” Bella said. “You can’t leave me.”  

“Go where?” Again I could see Evan looking at me as I was talking out loud.  

“Home,” Bella said. “Don’t go home without me.”  

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I can’t go home.” Evan looked at me again. I could see his mouth moving, but I couldn’t hear him or the commotion the three of them were making. Then I saw Harry with a needle and saw him stab me with it, but I couldn’t feel it.  

“i’m getting tired Hannah,” Bella said. “We both are.” I agreed with her and even though I didn’t close my eyes as I could see Evan shouting something at me, my world went dark.

What the f**k was going on? What did I just do? Why couldn’t I have eased it onto her like Mama Rosa had advised me to do? Instead I blurted out what I knew she already didn't know. That her mom was a vampire. I looked down at Hannah’s face as she lay there lifeless in my arms. Harry had to bring her down by tranquilizer. Her whole body was enveloped in the red aura and she was floating as far as she could being restrained. I tried to hold her down, but it felt like she kept on fighting with me. That’s when Harry decided to tranq her and her body dropped fast to the bed I didn’t have time to catch her.  

The bed thudded with the weight of Hannah’s body and her eyes were still open. Harry felt for a pulse and breathed a sigh of relief as he closed her eyes.  

“She’s still here. She’ll just be asleep for a few hours,” Harry said.  

I sighed and sat down on the side of the bed, “Thanks Harry.”  

“What the f**k happened?” Alex demanded as he came to stand beside me.  

“Mama Rosa is what happened.” We all turned to look and Mama Rosa was standing at the door with Allie behind her.  

“I’m sorry,” Allie said, “she said I’d have bad luck in bed with my mate if I didn’t show her where you guys took Hannah.” Alex nodded at Allie and she sighed a breath of relief.  

“Take your mate and go,” I said to Alex.  

“You sure? We can stay in the next room if you need us to,” Alex said.  

“Yes, you both should stay in the next room,” Mama Rosa answered for me. “We might need both your assistance again.” Then she turned to me, squared her jaw, and pointed a finger at me. “What did I warn you about? What did I say boy? How did this s**t happen and what did you do to her?”  

I stood and backed away from the bed with both hands up. Mama Rosa sighed and looked around to take a seat. Harry gave her a chair and stood back.  

“You do not know what you have done Alpha,” Mama Rosa sighed. “She is too fragile for you to handle so roughly. She is your moon and you are her sun. You both have been constantly running to and from one another for years. But this time, you’ll be joined as one. Believe it or not, this lifetime, it’s you and Hannah.

I couldn’t see her, but I could hear her. Mama Rosa was in the room next to me. Her calm voice calmed down my burning core and I could feel Bella calming down too. They had tranqed us Bella wanted to come out roaring bearing her claws and teeth to tear them limb from limb, but she couldn’t. That could only mean one thing. That the tranq had silver in it. I could hear Mama Rosa’s voice again.  

“A hundred years ago, the first Red Moon girl child was born. A first born to Alpha Jordan. The Red Moon pack never had a first born be a girl since the pack started oh so long ago. So to have a first born be a girl was startling to the whole pack as it was known that the first born of the Alpha must lead the pack once the Alpha steps down or is killed/dies. 

Hannah comes from a line of very strong Alpha women who had very strong powers. They were all born under a black moon so they glow red to signify their bond and strength of the Red Moon. Male first borns were, at most times, born under a Red Moon. To be born under a black moon meant you were the fiercest and strongest of the pack.  

The first-born Alpha girl was named Trinity. She didn’t know how to wield her power when she ruled after Alpha Jordan passed away. Her heir was a male, Alpha Trevor, his was a male and so on and so forth. So when Alpha Jackson had a first-born daughter 100 years later with a vampiress of all species, chaos struck the world. Hannah’s mother was a very powerful vampiress who had lived for centuries and longed to have a child of her own. Hannah is her only child as she couldn’t conceive with her own kind, so she decided to see if she could conceive with other species.  

Werewolves and vampires have a long drawn out ugly s**t for history, but Alpha Jackson and Hannah’s mother really were in love. When they found out they were pregnant they were over the moon with joy. And then the pregnancy let on and she came full term, they knew then that both their species could procreate together. But Hannah’s mom was shunned and banished from her kind after they found out she had consummated with a wolf. Had it been a human, they wouldn’t have cared. But with an ancient enemy? No, they wouldn’t have any of it. So she was banished and lived with Alpha Jackson until they vampire of all vampires wanted her head. So she left. Went to him and cut a deal with him. Leave my child and lover alone and you can have me.”  

Mama Rosa stopped and sighed.  

“What does any of this have to do with the Three Wolves’ pack?” I could hear Harry ask.  

“It was Alpha Evan’s father who rescued Hannah’s mother. He gave his own life to save her’s. She promised him that his first-born son could have her daughter once she turns 18. Hannah was just a little girl when this all happened. I’m surprised she remembers glimpses of her mother’s face,” Mama Rosa said.  

I could feel tears seeping out of my eyes and my heart growing heavy. I whimpered and tried to move, but couldn’t. I felt hands wiping away my tears and “Shhh.... it’s alright child. Mama Rosa is here now. Shhh....” 

“And who are you to her?” Harry asked Mama Rosa.  

“Me?” Mama Rosa asked back. “I’m no one to her, but I will guard her with my life as I guarded her mother’s life with mine. As I guarded your father’s life with mine before he died Alpha Evan.”  

“You... you can’t be...” I heard Evan gasp.  

“Oh, but I am,” Mama Rosa said.  

“Mom?” asked as I opened my eyes. “Is that really you?”  

She cupped the side of my face and looked into my eyes. "Yes, my darling. It's me. I've missed you." 

"I've missed you too," I said struggling to sit up.

"No, no. You lay down. There's been way too much too fast to comprehend in your state. Evan and I will be up in his suite talking. I'll make sure you're well cared for with Harry and Alex nearby," my mother said. 

"You do not give orders around here," Evan said. 

"Oh, but I do Alpha. When it comes to my child's well-being I am to command every aspect of it," Mama Rosa said standing up and pointing at me. "You do not restrain your mate like this. How dare you." 

"Oh I dare," Evan challenged Mama Rosa. "She is my mate and I can do whatever I please with her however I like. For now, this will have to do. After you." Evan waited for Mama Rosa to stand up and as she walked out the door, she took one last look at me before her and Evan disappeared altogether.
