HOUSE ON THE HILL
“You faked it?” Mirabel yelled out with a rounded fist as she stumped her feet on the ground.
“You really thought I'd be the mate to an Omega who hasn't found her wolf?” Jack retorted.
“What's wrong with that?Jack?” Mirabel wanted to calm herself down as she turned to face Jack completely.
“I honestly can't give you an honest reply now, but I think you do know what the consequences can be on the Pack's future” Dylan tried to defend Jack.
“Dylan, I don't think you should say anything anymore, I'm referring to Jack and he should at least know how to speak for himself.” Mirabel scolded.
“Mirabel,” Jack started to say something. “I will not deny the fact that I faked the mate process, but from what you overheard. I think it should be clear to you why I did what I did” Jack defended.
“Who is she?”
“Luna of a pack doing better than us,” Jack answered, “we're mated”
Mirabel smiled, left Jack and faced Dylan.
“And you, you hadn't thought of telling me?”
“Of what use would it have been, Mirabel? Now that you know, what did it change?”
“All of this, taking me in, providing shelter and the basic amenities I needed” “What was it all for?Dylan?, To think you actually wanted the best for me.”
“I have nothing to say to you, all I know is, you've been fooled, Mirabel” Mirabel stared at Dylan in disbelief.
“You know what's shocking?, The fact that you can openly tell me these things without any form or sign of remorse in you” “why are you doing this?” Mirabel was already at the brim of tears. She tried so hard to hold it back.
“Look Mirabel, every Omega, especially ones without wolves, sometimes have use, but I don't think you have any use, Mirabel” Dylan snapped back at Mirabel.
Jack stood there and said nothing.
“Well then, I'm sorry you wasted your time on something so useless, Dylan” Mirabel turned to leave.
This time Dylan wasn't the only one who was skilled at betrayal, the tears from her eyes were more than skilled.
**********************
Mirabel is the daughter of the Beta, Misty, her mother, Pamela is of the traditional werewolf descent.
Her parents died before she got the chance to discover where she really stood.
No parents equals, uncertainty of who you really are.
Mirabel was fifteen when her parents were slayed by werewolf hunters. It had been her wish to hunt them down and end them, but taking action was easier said than done, on her part.
Being an Omega at a very tender age attracted a lot of hate and rejection from her fellow werewolves.
“How does she live with herself knowing she would never have her wolf” some would say.
“Poor girl, where would she run to?” Others would say.
“Are you sure you want to take me in,?” The innocence on Mirabel's face only made him want to take her in and provide a place for her to stay.
“All I know is, you wouldn't want to spend another night here in the streets, it's even more dangerous, considering the fact that you don't have a wolf,” he told her as he offered a hand to lift her up from where she sat.
“And you're fine with that?”
“Let's get you out of here first, we'll talk about this when you're in a safer place” Dylan had told her that night and that was the beginning of a friendship that lasted over time.
To the rest of the pack, Dylan was a menace, but, to Mirabel, Dylan was her savior.
“This might sound uncomfortable, but I feel we should move far away from the rest of the pack” Dylan suggested.
“What?” Questions were written all over her eyes.
“Not too far away, I know a place close to the outskirts of the Serene Moon, peace would never be the option if we decide to remain in the midst of other werewolves.” He had a very solid argument.
“You have a point, but is there any place to stay?”
“My parents have a building there, we can stay there for as long as we want”
“Your parents? You've never spoken a word about them,” Mirabel countered.
“Same as you, we'll get there someday” he said with hope flying in his voice.
They set off that day.
“That's the house by the hill there” Dylan pointed to a big but sitting by the side of the hill.
They were almost at the house when an antelope crossed their path.
Immediately, Dylan's wolf emerged from within and he ran after the wolf till Mirabel could no longer see him. She took the bags and headed to the hut to wait for Dylan there.
All she could think of was why on earth her wolf refused to emerge, considering the fact that she's a descendant of a really strong line of Werewolves.
“Mirabel, are you in?”
“Dylan?” Mirabel yelled from inside and ran out of the hut “Dylan, that was really impressive” as she spoke, her eyes lit with joy and excitement.
“Yeah, it wasn't all that,” Dylan tried to be humble about it.
“Ofcourse it was, you should be grateful you could do something like that, some of us wish we could” Mirabel stayed and stared at her fingers.
Dylan raised her head using his pointer finger.
“You're special, you're gifted, you're amazing and nobody should tell you less than that, do you understand?”
Mirabel only nodded but she wasn't satisfied with that comment.
She knew she couldn't do any of those things, but neither should she drown herself in negativity.
She collected the antelope from Dylan and took it in to prepare dinner.
It was done and she set the table.
“The antelope,” she took a piece and raised it up, “it seemed really scared and terrified when it sighted you”
Dylan gave out a hearty laugh “Yes, all animals around know trouble when they see one,”
“To them, you're trouble?” A smile appeared on Mirabel's face.
“To them, we're trouble” Dylan corrected.
Mirabel was confused “We?”
“Myself and my brother used to come here every week when our parents were alive, we always had this competition amongst us,” Dylan took a bite out of the meat, and his mouth was stained with the oil, “the one who killed the most animals, they all learnt and never came out whenever myself and my brother came out here”
“I'm so sorry about your parents, you have a brother?, He sounds interesting”
“Yes, I do, trust me he isn't”
“Well, where's he now?”
“I don't think I'm allowed to give out that information, we're not on good terms tho, so whatever he feels he should do, let him do it” Dylan concluded and Mirabel felt like that was the cue to end that conversation.
There was silence for a few minutes before he broke it.
“Your parents, what happened to them?”
“Hunters”
“Oh, I'm so sorry about that” Pity was written all over Dylan's face.
“Yours?, Deadly disease”
“Just like the former Alpha and Luna?” Mirabel question.
“Yes, but totally not related to them tho”
“Oh, I'm really sorry them”
“What about your house?Where did you stay?”
“My dad owed someone, used the house as a collateral”
“Didn't you try to stop them?”
“How would I have stopped it if I wasn't even there in the first place?” “I got home that day and it was all locked up and sealed, with the note on it ‘new ownership' and there was nothing I could do, nobody came close to me, I had no choice.”
Dylan stared into space as he watched Mirabel speak until she stopped, waved her hands in front of him and asked.
“Dylan, are you ok?”
He came back to reality but was in shock “uh?, Yes, I am, just…”
“I need to deal with something, I'll be right back” Dylan stood up and started heading towards town.
“But you aren't done with dinner,” Mirabel yelled after him.
“I'll finish it when I'm back, save it for later, I'll be back soon” Dylan yelled back and disappeared.
Mirabel just sat there staring into space and confused as to why he just stood up and left on such short notice.
She cleared the table and took the dishes in.
Waiting for him to come back with lots of explanations.
