DECEIT AND DEFEAT Rays of sunshine entering from the window woke Mirabel up, she recalled the activity of the previous night and she couldn't stop smiling at herself. She turned to the other side and noticed that Jack was no longer in the room. The playroom Jack told her about was looking a lot brighter than it was the previous night. Mirabel marveled at the taste and grandeur of the upholstery, it was simple yet expensive. She stood up and walked over to the window, catching sight of the rising sun. It was indeed beautiful. Breakfast had already been set and a maid walked in. “Good morning miss,” she said and walked towards the bed to dress it. “Morning, where is the Alpha?,” Mirabel asked with a small smile on her face. “He has a visitor and is currently in the study,” she said huskily and then cleared her throat. “Oh, he must have a really crucial topic of discussion, don't you think?” Mirabel asked and took a bite from the grapes on the tray. The maid ignored the question “Relay anything you need to me by ringing this bell,” she pointed at a bell close to the door “dessert will be ready soon and brought up to you soon” she gave a small bow and left the room. The next group of people came in with a bouquet of flowers and chocolates. Mirabel was confused and amazed at the same time. Is this what life as a mate to the Alpha felt like?. She slowly opened the chocolates and munched them all down. It was slowly getting to noon and Mirabel saw no sign of Jack, Dylan would probably be looking for her now, but she was at rest because she already wrote him a letter to tell him her whereabouts. The maid came in again to clear up the table. “Jack isn't done?” “There's been no sign of him, Miss,” she replied and was about to leave. “You said he was in the study right?” “Yes miss,” the door shut. Mirabel decided to go and see for herself why Jack was taking so long. She roamed around the vast expanse of the room and then walked out into the hallway. She walked warily in the hall with all the intentions of seeking out Jack. Maids were moving up and down the hallway and all she could do was imagine how life would be living safely within the four walls of the Alpha's home. She got to a large door she recognized as the Alpha's study and office. “I don't understand what you're saying," Dylan's rasp voice said from the room and she stopped in her tracks. “Why is Mirabel here, and what is this you're saying about a mate?” “You know what I'm talking about," Jack grounded and she was confused at the hardness she heard from his voice. It sounded like Dylan was in there, she was in shock as she stood there eavesdropping. “I never really liked you Dylan, we both know that, so the act you're pulling here, like you care or whatever, it's not helping” “it really is not” Jack's voice was brewing in truth. “Where's Mirabel and what did you do to her?” Dylan sounded more possessive than ever. “Calm down Dylan, the moon goddess decided to bless us last night” “You see, I was about to send you a beautiful parcel, but then, myself and Mirabel found ourselves in a room” Jack's voice was sounding sinister. “You and Mirabel eloped last night? You know that's not possible, Jack, you're already mated, soon to be married, you and Mirabel are not compatible, she's an Omega and is almost as useless to the pack as any other thing.” Dylan snapped at Jack. Mirable couldn't believe Dylan could say something as harsh as that behind her back. “You think I don't know?, I know that, Dylan, but then I thought, maybe fooling someone very dear to you was just on my list to pay you back for all the terrible things you've done to me” “And I must say Dylan, you are one lucky werewolf, Mirabel is one of the smartest ladies I've met, you have good eye” “That's so low of you Jack, why are you like that?” Dylan's voice came off as ‘disappointed’. “The question here is, ‘what have you done to me?’,” Jack smirked. “Now that you're her mate, what will happen now?Your desire and obsession to grow this pack mixed with her inability to help the growth doesn't really match, you know that.” “Did I ever say she was my mate?” Jack smirked again. “What do you mean, Jack? You must be joking,” Dylan snapped. “Again, I say, you know what I mean and the last thing I want to do now is joke about this situation, I honestly just want to see you unhappy, but laughing is not for now, that's a later thing” Jack retorted. “Are you saying you faked it?" He asked Jack. Jack only looked Dylan directly in the eyes. Mirabel gasped from the hallway. They both heard her and turned towards the door, she timidly came in front of the door with anger written all over her face. “Mirabel, what are you doing here? Why are you out of bed?” Jack asked and was about to walk towards her. “Don't you dare come close to me” Her light brown eyes were already showing shades of fire red. “Mira..” Dylan started to talk. “You too Dylan, stay away from me,” she turned to Jack, “everything you told me yesterday was all Deceit and lies, and the chocolates and flowers? What were those for, Jack?, I'm just a chess piece in you and Dylan's game of revenge?” Mirabel sounded bitter and broken. “You wouldn't be of help to the pack, I would've changed my mind to be your mate instead, but the pack needs to grow and not become stunted.” Jack said with utmost confidence that shocked Mirabel. “Oh, so now I'm stunted, I will bring the pack crashing down.” “Not the way you put it but yes, something like that,” Jack quipped. “You'll regret this, the insults and downgrading, the both of you will regret this” “I'm more disappointed in you Dylan” Mirabel stormed out of the office and grabbed her things. She took the flowers and scattered them on the floor, grabbed the parcel, and went back to the office. She threw it at Dylan, “Take your stupid parcel that is the cause of my disgrace here.” She stormed out of the home and went to the house at the outskirts. Mirabel put a call through to the transport service and informed them about her movement from the pack to the neighboring pack. It all happened so fast and it was getting real. She booked a seat for an hour and began sorting out her clothes and belongings. Mirabel had nowhere to go, but staying at the pack would only be more disastrous than she can ever imagine, since no one wanted her there including the person she thought she could trust. Broken and distraught, she gathered her things in a bag amidst heavy tears, she made sure she was fast enough so Dylan wouldn't catch up with her. She left for the bus park and sat in the back seat crying her eyes out. She didn't know what awaited her but she knew she needed to start a new life away from people with bad energy towards her. “The bus for Crescent Pack moves in five minutes, fasten your seat belts.”
