Chapter 11: The Shattered World

Mira woke in the soft light of dawn. But it wasn’t the Elderglen forest. It wasn’t even the ruins of Hollowspire. She was lying on the edge of a familiar forest. The scent of pine and damp earth filled her nose. She blinked, sitting up. Home. Her heart thudded in her chest. The world around her was exactly like the one she had left, but different. There was a softness to it, a quietness, as though the war in her world had been paused, held in place by something invisible. Cael stood nearby, his face pale, his clothes tattered, but he was no longer consumed by shadows. The light from the broken mirror glowed faintly around him, a shield against the darkness that had once claimed him. β€œIt worked,” Cael said, his voice raw. β€œWe’re... here. The worlds were splitting apart.” Cael nodded slowly. β€œThe mirror shattered. But it didn’t break everything. The light you brought through, the light we both chose... it healed the fracture between the worlds. Not by erasing them, but by merging them.” Mira’s map, still in her hand, pulsed softly as the last of the ink faded away. No more paths. No more directions. β€œThis is it,” she said quietly, understanding now. β€œThe worlds are connectedβ€”but not destroyed. The balance was found.” A soft breeze stirred the trees around them. A sound like a sigh of relief seemed to echo through the forest. β€œWhat happens now?” Cael asked, stepping closer. β€œNow,” Mira said with a quiet smile, β€œwe rebuild.”
