Chapter 15: The Mirrorborn

225 Words
The air inside Hollowspire was sharp—alive with memory. As Mira stepped forward, the shard in Cael’s hand pulsed brighter, casting long shadows along the walls. “What do you mean, ‘they’re coming through’?” Mira asked. Cael knelt and placed the shard on the ground. “When we shattered the Mirror of Elderglen, we thought it was the only one. But there were others—reflections hidden in forgotten corners of the world. Not all were bound by the same rules. Some… made copies.” Mira’s skin prickled. “Copies of what?” Thistle’s ears flattened. “Of you.” The shard flared suddenly, projecting flickering images—versions of Mira. One stood wrapped in thorns, her face blank and cold. Another laughed cruelly, fire in her eyes. Yet another wept in silence as shadow tendrils curled around her hands. “They call themselves the Mirrorborn,” Cael said. “Fragments of you—or what you could have become—slipped into other realms when the Mirror broke. Now they’re trying to return… to rewrite what is.” Mira stared at her twisted reflections. They looked almost like her—but not quite. Each carried a piece of the pain she had overcome… or buried. “We need to find the second mirror,” Mira said. “Before they do.”
