Chapter 19: The Thread of Truth

294 Words
The Hollow Thread shimmered in Mira’s hand—thin as spider silk, bright as starlight. It pulsed with her heartbeat. With every breath, memories anchored it: her first step into Elderglen, the warmth of Thistle’s voice, the night she forgave Cael. Each memory was a stitch in the fabric of her soul. “I choose truth,” she said again. “Not just the parts that shine, but the broken ones too.” Pride laughed. “And what will you do with us? Bind us? Bury us again?” “No,” Mira said softly. “I will remember you.” She turned to Wrath. “You are my fury—when the world felt too cruel to bear. But you kept me fighting.” To Fear: “You reminded me that I was small, but never stopped me from stepping forward.” To Grief: “You held the pain of what I lost… and helped me understand love.” To Pride: “You made me believe I could survive anything. But you forgot—true strength isn’t above others. It walks beside them.” And finally, to Silence: “You were the part of me that held every unspoken word. I hear you now.” The Hollow Thread brightened. And in that light, the Mirrorborn trembled. Cael stepped beside her, a soft awe in his expression. “You’re not banishing them.” “No,” she said. “They are me. But they are not in control anymore.” The mirror behind them cracked completely. Its pieces rose into the air—floating, weightless—and drifted toward Mira. The shards merged with the thread in her hand, forming a new heartstone. Not a weapon. Not a prison. A compass. A way forward.
