Chapter 17 first shift

1093 Words
Carla’s P.O.V   When Brandon took my hand I felt sparks go through my whole body and I guess he felt it too because he jerked a few times, but then he settled down and he looked at me with love in his eyes. He’s never done that before and it made me curious as to why he was doing it now. As we were walking I started to feel a dull aching feeling in my legs and it almost made me trip.   “It's okay, Carla. We are almost in the middle of the woods, just hold on. I know you’re aching right now, but it's normal, it means it's the start of your shift.” Brandon said and he was right. My arms started to ache and then my stomach started hurting. I felt one of my ribs break, causing me to scream out in pain, but when he tried to hold me I fell on the ground in even more pain. I clawed at the dirt, grabbing hold of it and Goddess only knew what else as I screamed out once more. My legs started to break and shift, my arms broke and shifted. I arched my back up as my back bone broke and elongated, shifting into its new place for my wolf.   “MAKE IT STOP!!! IT HURTS!!! BRANDON MAKE IT STOP!!!” I screamed out and he dropped to his knees beside me.   “It's okay, Carla, you're almost done, just a few more minutes and you will be fully shifted.” Brandon replied and I cried out as my face began to distort. My jaw broke and elongated, then my nose and mouth shifted to become one long snout. I looked up at Brandon and saw my eyes reflected in his eyes as they changed colour. All over my skin was itching because my wolf's fur was starting to break through, spreading all over my body. My teeth broke through my gums as they grew longer and turned into canines. I closed my eyes, willing and praying for the shift to be over, for the pain to stop, but it seemed to take forever.   “Open your eyes and see the world with your new eyes.” Kayla said and I slowly opened my eyes to see that I had now fully shifted. The pain was fading away and I was so glad it was over.   “You will see better, you will hear better and you will smell better. Look at your paws and you will know the colour of our fur. I promise you, Carla, you will never be alone again.” Kayla said, talking to me, but it was really weird this time and it felt like I had taken a back seat in my own body, well, it was her body now since I had shifted. I started looking around at everything and I could see everything a thousand times clearer than before, even the colours seemed brighter than they did before. I sniffed the air and I could smell many things. I could smell the rabbits that were hiding in their den and I could smell the deer that were on the other side of the woods, eating. I sniffed the air again, taking in a lungful of all the different smells, but then I smelled the scent of another wolf near me. I growled and snarled when the scent of a human hit me too. I snarled with my teeth showing as I heard a twig snap near me. I turned quickly and saw a man standing there. I growled and snapped my jaws at him, but he stood there and held his hands out to me. What the f**k is he doing? Who is he?   “Carla, it's me, Brandon. You know the guy that sleeps beside you every night, well except for the first one because you made me sleep on the couch.” The man I now knew as Brandon said, chuckling slightly, but keeping eye contact with me. I backed up a bit as he stepped forward, not knowing what he was going to do.   “It's me, the one who pisses you off every other day. The one that makes you train….come on, love, you can't leave me, I would be lost without you. You need to shift back, you need to remember your human. It's okay, Carla, I won't hurt you.” Brandon said, still keeping enough distance between us.   “Who is he? What does he want?” I asked Kayla and she sighed.   “Carla, it's a side effect of the first shift, you are forgetting who has been around you recently because your brain hasn't caught up after the shock of the trauma your body went through. You need to take a deep breath and calm down, Carla. I know you’re hurting and I know that you’re pissed off because the last memories you have were of your parents giving you away, but it’s okay now.” Kayla replied, but that still didn't tell me if I could trust the man in front of me or not. I trusted Kayla, but what about him? Who was he to me?   “What about him? Can I trust him? Do you trust him?” I asked, looking at the man called Brandon.   “Brandon won't hurt us, no matter how much you want to kill him at times, he has never hurt us. You need to shift back. We can't be a huge red wolf running around the forest, other pack’s will notice you. You need to shift back, Brandon won't hurt us, honey.” Kayla replied and I huffed as a few more memories came back to me, this time of him and me together.   “Calm yourself, take a deep breath and let it out. You're going to be okay. Come on, I know you can do this.” Kayla said, trying to encourage me and even though I was still unsure I did as she told me to and took a few deep breaths, letting them out slowly. A few more memories came to me of Brandon and I training together, like he had said before and then some of him and me in the shower. What were we to each other? Could I really trust him? I thought as my memories came flooding back to me all at once, giving me a slight headache.
