Chapter 013: Misunderstanding “Anindira!” Halvir lunged forward. His hand immediately caught Anindira’s arm as she slipped, her body nearly tumbling into the ravine below them. “What’s wrong with you?!” Halvir shouted, his voice sharp with panic. “Be careful!” Without hesitation, he scolded her while pulling her into his arms. His embrace was strong—too strong for Anindira’s small body, which was still trembling. Anindira shook violently in his embrace. Her heart nearly leaped out of her chest. Even she was shocked when she realized just how close she had come to death—falling from a height of dozens of meters because of a single panicked step. “L-Let... me go!” she cried brokenly, pushing against Halvir’s chest with all her strength. It was useless. Anindira’s push did not move Halvir at all. “Let me go...” she pleaded again, her voice trembling. Her body struggled, trying to escape the embrace that felt increasingly suffocating. “I-I’m begging you... I-I’m okay, right...? P-please stay a good person...” Halvir did not understand what was happening. But one thing was very clear to him—Anindira’s body was shaking violently. Her jaw was rigid, her breathing uneven. The storm of emotions running through her was obvious beneath his hands. Not knowing what else to do, Halvir only tightened his embrace. Hic... Hic... Hic... At last, Anindira cried. Still in his arms. Halvir fell silent. He did not know how to talk to her. With an extremely careful movement, he stroked Anindira’s head. His fingers slowly ran through her black hair, patiently waiting until the body in his embrace gradually lost its tension. Some time passed. When Halvir felt the trembling begin to subside, he slowly loosened his hold. He held both of Anindira’s arms and lowered himself into a half-kneeling position so their faces were level. The girl was still sobbing. “I’m sorry...” Halvir said softly, his expression filled with sorrow, his face so close to Anindira’s. “I don’t know what made you react like that. But at least think about your safety—no matter how angry you are.” With an incredibly gentle motion, his rough fingers wiped away the remaining tears on Anindira’s cheeks. Anindira’s heart was still racing. Inevitably, she found herself staring into those blue *Sapphire eyes from less than twenty centimeters away. Too close. Too clear. Slowly, the unease in her chest faded. There was genuine concern in those eyes. Not lust. Not a threat. “Why did you take off your clothes?” Anindira asked hoarsely. Halvir tilted his head, his expression full of confusion. “What were you trying to do by taking off your clothes?” Anindira asked again. Her voice was still rough, her throat sore. Halvir continued to look puzzled. He watched Anindira, trying to grasp the meaning behind every movement of her lips, every shift in her expression. “You really weren’t going to do anything bad to me, right?!” Halvir remained silent. His gaze was serious—not cold, but deeply focused. Unfortunately, language was not the only barrier between them. Their norms, cultures, and ways of thinking came from entirely different worlds. Both of them were misunderstanding each other. “This world is truly foreign to me,” Anindira said, her voice shaking. “I’m all alone here... Aside from Kak Halvir, I have no one I can rely on. So please, Kak... don’t destroy my judgment of you. If that happens, I won’t know who I can trust anymore.” Sob... Sob... Her tears broke free again. Halvir’s eyes widened. His chest tightened. Seeing the girl cry like that made his heart ache. The injuries covering his body felt insignificant compared to the pressure crushing his chest right now. “I’m truly confused right now...” His hands were still holding Anindira’s arms. Their heads were level. Yet this time, Halvir lowered his gaze—frustrated, helpless. “How long are we going to keep being like this?” he murmured. “You are mine. Yet for some reason, I still feel uncomfortable with that. I’m a *Sapphire. I should be confident. But when I’m facing you... all of that feels useless. What am I supposed to do? What do you actually want?” Anindira’s anger and fear slowly evaporated. They were replaced by sympathy. Before her stood a large, muscular man covered in scars, yet he looked so troubled. “Kak... are you crying?” Anindira asked seriously. Slowly, both her palms cupped Halvir’s cheeks and lifted his face. Halvir’s expression was completely exposed—fragile, almost broken. “So you’re not...” Anindira muttered half-jokingly, surprised to see a side of Halvir completely different from the man she had known until now. “Have you calmed down now?” Halvir asked cautiously. “I don’t understand...” Anindira shook her head. “But it seems I really don’t need to be afraid. You won’t do anything bad to me...” She paused. “Probably.” “You’re not going to do anything dangerous to yourself again, are you?!” Halvir asked firmly, his concern still overflowing. “I already told you I don’t understand what you’re saying,” Anindira replied, turning her face away. Her cheeks reddened. “But this situation... is weird.” Halvir frowned, but he felt relieved. Anindira’s panic had eased considerably. “Seriously, what were you trying to do by taking off your clothes?!” Anindira demanded irritably. “I’m the only daughter in my family. But that doesn’t mean I’m immune to seeing a naked man! This is embarrassing...” She tried her hardest to avoid looking at the lower part of Halvir’s body. “Sleep!” she suddenly blurted out, more as an escape than anything else. “We should sleep. I’m exhausted.” “Kak Halvir, let’s just go to sle—Mmph!” Anindira immediately covered her own mouth. “i***t!!!” she screamed inwardly. “I just got out of one weird situation, so why did I make it sound like I was inviting him?!” “Ugh, whatever!” she shouted in frustration. “Anindira!” Halvir was startled, though not panicked. From Anindira’s slowing breaths and the way her body was no longer struggling, he could tell that she had become far more stable. He picked up the garment that had been covering the lower half of his body—a piece of animal hide tied around his waist, reaching all the way to his ankles. With slow, careful movements, Halvir draped the hide over Anindira. “Cover yourself so you won’t get cold...” he said quietly. Still remaining as calm as possible, Halvir helped Anindira sit back against him. He positioned her directly in front of him, then embraced her once more—this time looser, more careful. “Calm down,” Halvir said gently. “You could freeze to death if you move away from me.” Anindira felt uncomfortable. Her heart started beating faster again. Yet she forced herself not to overreact. Calm down, Dira... calm down! Easy to say... My butt is literally sitting on a naked guy’s lap. Of course I’m nervous! “Anindira, our journey is still very long. You need plenty of rest so you don’t get sick...” Halvir said, completely unaware of the chaos running through the girl’s mind. Just as Anindira began calming herself a little, Halvir’s voice trembled against the back of her neck. Then—it happened again. This time, in reverse. Halvir’s human body changed. Muscle, bone, and flesh transformed into the form of a massive black jaguar. Anindira was shocked once more. But this time, she neither screamed nor resisted. Her body and soul were simply too exhausted. Anindira fell asleep atop Halvir’s warm, soft jaguar form. The hide that had previously covered only the lower half of Halvir’s body now served as a thin blanket, sufficient for her small frame. The night swallowed them in silence.
