Scene One – Morning Devotion
Setting: The living room of the Adeyemi family's modest but respectable home. The room is neat and reflects a deeply religious household. A family portrait hangs on the wall. A center table holds a Bible, hymn books, and a devotional guide. It is 6:00 a.m.
At Rise:
DEACON ADEYEMI kneels in prayer. His voice is calm and sincere.
MRS. ADEYEMI walks in from the kitchen, carrying a tray and muttering to herself.
The TWIN BROTHERS, TAYO and KEHINDE, enter, still sleepy.
A moment later, the IDENTICAL TRIPLETS enter separately.
ESTHER carries a Bible and notebook.
BELLA strolls in lazily, chewing gum while scrolling through her phone.
GRACE quietly follows behind, greeting everyone with a gentle smile before taking her seat.
A bell rings.
DEACON ADEYEMI: Good morning, everyone.
ALL (except Bella): Good morning, Daddy.
BELLA: (without looking up) Morning.
MRS. ADEYEMI: Bella! Is that how you greet your father?
BELLA: I greeted him, didn't I?
MRS. ADEYEMI: Don't test my patience this early in the morning.
DEACON ADEYEMI: (raising a hand gently) Peace. Let us begin with prayer.
Everyone bows their heads.
DEACON ADEYEMI: Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of another day. May this home continue to walk in Your wisdom and love. Protect our children wherever they go and help us always choose what is right. Amen.
ALL: Amen.
ESTHER: Daddy, today's devotion is from the Book of Proverbs.
She opens her Bible confidently.
BELLA: (whispering to Grace) Here we go again...
Grace tries not to laugh.
ESTHER: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding..."
The family listens.
Mrs. Adeyemi interrupts.
MRS. ADEYEMI: Bella, throw that chewing gum away.
Bella rolls her eyes but obeys.
The reading continues.
When it ends, Deacon Adeyemi smiles proudly.
DEACON ADEYEMI: Remember, our character is our greatest testimony.
Bella glances away.
Grace notices.
For a brief moment, Bella and her father lock eyes. Something unreadable passes between them before Bella looks away.
A knock is heard at the gate.
Everyone turns.
Mrs. Adeyemi frowns.
MRS. ADEYEMI: Who could that be by this time of the morning?
The knock comes again.
BLACKOUT.
