I made my way to the infirmary, where Gabriel was being treated for his wounds. Worry clawed at my chest as I waited in the waiting room. Every minute stretched endlessly until the receptionist finally called me over. “Michelle, you’re good to come inside when you’re ready,” said the tall woman with gray hair and dull blue eyes. She walked to the doorway and opened it for me. I nodded, offering a muttered, “Thanks,” as I sidestepped her and entered the hallway. “Room 2,” she called out, already returning to her desk.
