4 A STRANGER APPEARS ‘Hamlet?’ Thordric said, shaking his blond friend gently by the shoulders. He and Kal had taken Hamlet to Lizzie’s house so that the other wizards wouldn’t panic about whatever it was he had to say, and while Hamlet was still unconscious, Thordric had tried to reach Vey on his long-distance communicator to see if he was alright. There had been no reply; Thordric couldn’t even make out any background noises to suggest where Vey was. Lizzie came in from the kitchen with a tray of tea and cakes. ‘Is he awake yet?’ she asked quietly, placing the tray down on the coffee table. As she did so, Hamlet stirred. They had put him on the same sofa that Thordric had been lying on when he’d fainted, and as Hamlet opened his eyes, he panicked and promptly fell off onto the floor
