As she stood up, advancing at me, she pulled a the chair near me backwards with someone seated.
"What did you just say to me?" she asked with her fists folding. "Well I'm sure everyone one here including you heard it," I said standing up, now facing each other."So I don't see any need to repeat myself." Laughing beneath her breath, she took a cup of hot tea just by the table, But instead of pouring it on me like I thought and like the rest of the women gasped in fear, she took two delicate sip from it, all the while still looking at me.
And just when she dropped in back, as the breaths around me released in relief, suddenly her palm rised up to my face.
But I hand was fast enough to stop it mid air. "Careful with how you go about rising your hand, cause I have one too," I said as we glared at each other. " Then you better be sure to keep your eyes open when you sleep cause I can come cutting them off," she threatened meaning every word of it.
"Enough! Both of you," Lawrence mom finally intervened. " Valyrie I will not have you disrespect this gathering by disrespecting your brother's wife. I demand you apologise now."
Letting go of her hand, I stood, expecting an apology. "An apology huh?" She asked, looking at me and then at the entire faces staring at her. "Well read my lips," she said slowly. "That will only happen in your nightmares."
Giving me one last glance that said this wasn't over, she walked out in steps that that was slow yet extremely dangerous.
" Valyrie come back here this instant!" the woman who I had thought couldn't be removed couldn't be pulled from her calm nature roared at her daughter but instead of turning back a loud slam that echoed the whole room came in response.
Both her presence and absence had such a strong impact as it marked the end of the tea party.
And for some reason as we road off in silence, I couldn't help but to feel guilty for causing it.
Pulling over to the house where I was now getting used to being in, I felt the need to apologise.
"I'm very sorry for how the tea party turned out. I should have not responded the way I did." I said sincerely.
"You have no need to apologise. It's me that should be sorry for letting the tea party to turn like that. I shouldn't have invited her knowing how she is, but still I did. But I'm happy you stood up at her the way you did, cause Valyrie is one big force that everyone tries to not get in contact out fear but you didn't, and that is bravery."
"Thank you," I said, smiling at her kind words before finally stepping down from the limousine.
"Did you have a good time?" A voice that I was shocked to hear and find around by this time as it wasn't yet that evening yet said to me as I walked up heading for the stairs. Why was he back by now? I wondered, and what was I supposed to tell him now? God I wasn't ready both physically and mentally for a conversation at all.
"It was okay," I managed to say, for it wasn't really like it was all that bad at the from the beginning.
"You are back earlier than usual," I turned to see where he was.
"I had a bit magerine that's why," he stepped out still from the dark where his voice came still in his office pants and white sleeves, holding what steamed from the cup he was holding like some coffee.
"Oh I see. Try taking some drugs then, I'm sure you will be alright after that," I said in a hurry, as I just wanted to get to my room and freshen up.
Just as I was about heading more for the stairs he stopped me. "Wait. Where is it?" He asked searching all over me with his eyes.
"What's that?" I asked growing impatient, I really just wanted to retire for the day.
"The phone I got you. Didn't you take it with you to the party."
I really need to start getting used to having a phone now, I told myself as I bit my lip remembering I left it in the limousine. I didn't even take it along with me inside the tea party, I had left it all through. I wasn't really a phone person that much to be always cautious of it like most people do.
"I did, but I guess I left it in the limousine that came to pick me up," I explained shortly.
"You think or you totally lost it? Which is it?" he asked, dropping his coffee cup.
"I didn't lose it, I told you I left it in the car,"
"But you just said limousine, so which is it, car or limousine?"
I was seriously getting irritated by the way he was going with this. "Car, limousine, they are all basically the same thing. I left it in the limousine with your mom in it after dropping me off just few minutes ago."
"I see," he muttered in a way that wishpered he was angry.
"Dinner is served," Hilda announced to us.
"I have no appetite, thank you Hilda," he said, raising up. He was definitely angry.
"Just microwave whatever it is for me tomorrow," I told Hilda, as she asked me with her eyes. I didn't have appetite as well.
The next day, I got up early than the last time. I couldn't place the feeling but I didn't quite like that Lawrence was angry at me, maybe it was because I knew how I would feel if someone didn't tooled properly of something I gave them. Even though it wasn't really a gift, he bought it with his money and I didn't really appreciate it. For that I was keen to retrieve the phone back someway as I couldn't go meet him to contact his mom for it, he wouldn't agree I was sure.
Finding Hilda in the kitchen, I requested. "Good morning Hilda. Can I please have the telephone number of my mother-in-law, I left my phone in her car yesterday you see."
"I good morning to you ma'am," she greeted bowing a little. " Your husband had already called her this morning, I heard him talking to her about it to her in his studies this morning."
I was more than shocked when I heard this. "Really he did?" I asked not hiding my surprise because I didn't thought he would at all.
"Sir Lawrence really loves you," Hilda smiled in her motherly way. "He wouldn't have done so with the way he was angry last night if he didn't."
How crazy will that be, I thought, if he actually did. It was impossible. But of course I couldn't voice this out openly.
After eating my breakfast which was my dinner last night, I made a mental note to thank him when he comes back today from the office.
Wandering around having nothing to do after talking to my brother and mother in the telephone, who I promised to visit the next day, I went into his study room, even though I knew it would be filled with business and economic stuff.
But as I looked over the many books there, it didn't just had that, there were also psychology along with neuroscience and other science related books. Just how much does his brain can take with so many knowledge? I wondered, as I looked around the shelves marvelled.
Reaching out to grab one for myself as it has been long I opened a book, another hand that wasn't mine stopped me.
"And just what do you think you are doing stooping through my stuff," his voice came, cold and restrained than ever which cause me to shiver a little. I had forgotten Hilda had mention he was in the study earlier. But he was always at work by this time of the day.
Turning around facing him eye to eye. "Nothing I was just looking around, that's all," I said trying to escape from his gaze by leaving, but he placed his hand on the book shelf behind me, making me to lean my back over on it.
With his brown eyes now pierced directly through my face, I tried looking down, but then his sleeves were unbuttoned from stomach up. Where should I look now? I wondered as both his gaze and body were all too close.
"Aren't you supposed to be at work by now?" I tried distracting myself from looking down, trying to stare back at him.
"I don't work on weekends," he said, not taking his hand off the shelf nor his gaze from me.
But then, he pulled away slowly, making me breathe in relief from having him that close at me. Immediately a voice we both knew came, advancing to where we are.
"Where are they?" his mom's voice asked, drawing close.
Suddenly, without warning, him arms wrapped around my waist, pulling me firmly against him. My breath hitched. His eyes piercing into mine now more than ever.
"Where are they?" his mom's voice came again.
And before I could make sense of it, everything went black.
