Chapter Thirteen
Returns and Revelations
The buzz and gray gave way to a drone and small, diffused, white spot. No longer flying uncontrolled through the ether, a reassuring weight spread through my limbs and torso. My head and back pressed down into a too soft pillow and a too hard mattress. The white spot resolved itself into a dim fluorescent light while the drone cleared to a bland, annoying pop song.
Will someone turn that damn thing off I wanted to say, but couldn’t. A tube down my throat prevented that.
Where was I? Hospital room. Intensive care? A nurse in pale blue scrubs entered, palm pilot in hand. She stopped, found me awake, then ran out calling for a doctor.
