CHAPTER 8
Alena POV
I’m panicking again. I was thinking too much in the shower. I had to tell Dewei I decided as the debate went on in my head. I don’t even understand. What are the chances? That he of all people would be Patrick’s mysterious best friend? She would kill me if I didn’t tell her right away. I should have called her yesterday the moment I found out! Her dramatic ass would kill me.
I grab my phone while I quickly get dressed after my long shower. She would help me figure this out. We discussed it though? He told me we could start over. We’re starting over.
Me: *Hi D! How is the tour? I have some insane news and I need your thoughts on how to approach this*
Delivered.
I stare at my message and smile as she immediately reads it.
Main b*tch: * Spill! What’s going on? Don’t tell me you're pregnant, I will whoop your ass! Don’t you listen to anything I tell you, always pee after!”
I burst out laughing and roll my eyes when I can actually hear her voice while reading her message. She was crazy, but she was my crazy. She gave the best relationship advice even though she and Patrick had a love hate kind of relationship that I always found amusing. I quickly typed back wishing I could see her face while she reads it.
Me: *No I’m not! Mr McSteamy is in my house! He’s Patricks bestfriend that’s going to live with us for the next couple of weeks!*
Not even a minute goes by before she answers.
Main b***h: *You’re lying, NO WAY!*
Me: *I’m not and his name is Evander! I feel like I can’t breathe!*
I quickly pull my rocking daisies t-shirt over my head when she takes longer to answer this time. My phone pings as I pull on my sweatpants. I didn’t know what our plans were for today, but I had a good idea the boys would be gaming. I could hear the music blaring from the playstation.
My phone pings as I brush my hair.
Main b***h: *Is he still hot? I don't understand why he doesn’t have any social media platforms though! Maybe he’s like a spy or something! f**k! He’s Patrick's best friend! This is crazy! OH MY GOSH! IS HE MARRIED?*
I could literally see her playing with her ponytail like she always did while panicking or overreacting. I read her message again and accidentally hit my pinky toe against the bed. I curse silently and jump awkwardly while I type back.
Me: *He’s not married, I don’t think so.*
I rub my toe and make up our bed. I could hear Patrick and Evander talking about guns or something I didn’t know about and decided to lay down on the bed. My phone starts to ring and I see Dewei is trying to Facetime me.
I answer and she’s almost screaming, “HE’S SINGLE! AND HE’S..!”
My door flies open and Patrick's eyes land on me stretched out on the bed and I quickly interrupt Dewei.
“It’s nice to see you too! D! Who’s single? Patrick just walked in!” I awkwardly show her Patrick and Evander in the background busy on the phone. She immediately realise what I’m trying to do and quickly shuts up.
“Hello Dewi!” Patrick says and grabs my phone.
“Helo Ass face,” She says and he glares a little at her jokingly.
“That’s not very nice we have company! That’s my best friend Evander… AKA You're not allowed to bang him!” Patrick jokes and Evander waves awkwardly at my phone as Patrick holds it over his shoulder. Evander starts to chat again on his phone about a meeting and his eyes flicker briefly to mine before he turns around. Patrick and Dewei start bickering again.
“He is deliciously breathtaking, but do you know what! I’m actually seeing someone! So no thank you and screw you for making me sound like a w***e!”
“Screw you too! Can I have my girlfriend back now?”
Patrick jokes and I shake my head at him threateningly. I haven't talked to Dewei in days!
“No, I need to talk to her right now! So give her the phone and hit the road!” Dewei says and I awkwardly shrug my shoulders at Patrick.
“Oh fine sheesh what's your problem?” He says and eyes Dewei for a moment as if he wanted to say something, but thinks better of it when he looks at me again.
“Alenal!” She calls my name and I quickly grab my phone back and shove Patrick out the door giving him an apologetic smile. When I hear him move away from the door I breathe again. Fudgestickals that was close. Really too close. Thank goodness he never really cared about what Dewei and I talked about. I finally look at Dewei again and see she's looking over the phone at something.
That's when I finally took her in. She's dressed in her red dress and there’s lights behind her and her hair is in a tight ponytail. Eyes framed with beautiful sparkly cat eyeliner and her lips tinted with dark red lip gloss.
“Wait, are you about to perform!”
She looks back at the phone and grins showing me her dress and the stage filled with dancers.
“Yes, but wait, we are talking about you! Are you at least ok! Have you told Patrick?”
I scratch my head and look out the window, “No? I thought I could just not tell him? It was such a long time ago anyway and Evander also suggested we don’t tell him.”
She doesn't say anything, forcing me to look at her again. I did and she had one of her perfect black eyebrows raised in question.
“Wait, have you two been alone?”
“No..well kind of?” I say and fidget with my shirt sleeve awkwardly not knowing what to say. We have been alone and the tension was crazy. THAT is what I should tell her. I feel like a kid unable to tell her parents a big secret. I look at her and feel my cheeks heat as I mumble again.
"I don't exactly know D. I just feel frustrated with this whole situation." I admit honestly.
Her eyes are wide and I quickly shake my head, “Nothing happened ok? We just chatted and yeah..”
“Sh*t Alena! You’re blushing! You don’t even blush around Patrick! This is a problem! I wish I could see you! Why does all the good stuff happen when I’m not there?! This sucks!”
She pouts well mocking Patrick and I roll my eyes.
"I wish I could trade places with you." I say and see her eyes flicker over the phone again.
“FIVE MINUTES!” Someone shouts and Dewei nods at the person standing behind her.
“Got to go! Love you my Best!” she shouts.
“Love you too!”
“Facetime soon! Just remember there is a reason you fell in love with Patrick! My momma always says, don’t be blind with lust, but think with love! Focus on you and what's good for you ok?”
“Ok! Enjoy the show!” I wave at her and wish I could literally pull her through the screen. I missed her so much and needed one of her famous hugs. This would have been so much easier if our apartment was finished. The whole staying together with Evander thing is kind of freaking me out. I think of what Dewei just said.
You don’t feel love when kissing a stranger you just met, what I have with Patrick that’s love so... she’s right. I love Patrick, it took time and we’ve already been through so much together. He knows me.
“You know I always do! Bye!” She says and I hear a crowd applause somewhere behind her.
“Bye!”
We hang up and I stare at the door for a second. I needed to think clearly. The tension between us could just be in my head. I put my hair in a ponytail and open up the door and head to the kitchen. That's when I realize Patrick and Evander have left. I start making some omelets and see he didn’t get the tomatoes I asked him to get. So I only use some cheese, mushrooms and bacon for them. I hate eating pig meat so I only put some cheese and mushroom on mine. I finish up a couple of minutes later as they come walking in with groceries.
“What’s going on?” I ask as I take in the amount of food.
“Evander's mother bought us some groceries to say thank you. I said it wasn’t necessary, but a driver just brought it over! How insane is that? Evander and I also went to get the newest Call of Duty: warzone game! I feel like a freaking kid!”
“Well that’s nice, thank you Evander, but it was really not necessary.” I say and quickly start to unpack the grocery bags.
"My mother is kind of a control freak when it comes to food." Evander says with a half defeated glint in his eye. Patrick grabs his omelet and kisses me noisily on the cheek. “Thanks Pumpkin! Let’s eat man, she'll pack it away! Let’s get gaming.” Patrick says and Evander nods, but doesn't move an inch. I act like I don't see it and just keep packing away the food.
“Well we could, but I would like to know where everything is packed. I don’t want her making the food everyday. I should pitch in. If we both help her now it will only take like five minutes.” Evander says and I pause awkwardly in front of the fridge.
“It’s really not necessary, I like making food.” I say, but he starts to unpack, ignoring me for a second.
“So do I.” He says and then Patrick looks between us and then puts down his plate.
“Well let’s do it then! Let’s hurry though! My friends are waiting for us to join the clan!”
A couple minutes later the three of us are sitting on the couch eating. And of course I’m squeezed in the middle.
"Thank you, that was delicious Alena." Evander says and I just nod. When we finish up and the two of them start gaming. I'm about to sneak back to the room, but Patrick stops me and says I should sit with them. An hour has passed and I hold my book and my knees against my chest as I read between the two of them. Evanders arm brushes against mine everytime he moves and I’ve been stuck on one page for the last couple of minutes now. I swallow hard and turn my page as they keep on gaming. Finally my book gets to a very interesting part and I lose myself in it. I love the feeling one gets when you read a good book and forget that the real world exists. I read about her lover running his hands down her back. The two star crossed lovers kiss and it’s a frantic scene of clothes slipping away and skin against skin. I try to lift my book to ensure that not one of them sees what I’m reading, but then I catch Evander's eyes. He smirks and I know he read exactly what I didn't want him to. He meets my eyes as I press my book against my chest. I glare at him and he shrugs his shoulders with a glint of amusement in his eyes.
“Evander! You're gonna die on your left!” Patrick shouts and jumps to his feet. He was living for his game. Oblivious.
