Chapter 2 – THE PACT WİTH THE DEVIL

1099 Words
The next morning, I opened my eyes after a sleepless night. Yesterday, I had tried to convince myself that nothing had been real. But in my dreams, that red-winged being had been silently watching me. Also, what happened yesterday was real; the proof was still the paper on top of the dresser from yesterday. The symbols that had shone so brilliantly yesterday no longer glowed. The house was silent; as if nothing from the previous day had ever happened. But curiosity… curiosity never stops. Who was that being? Was it someone who harmed humans? Going back to that house wasn’t a good idea. I wasn’t brave enough to do it. I don’t think anyone could be that brave. I asked my grandmother questions about the abandoned house. She told me the legend associated with it. Grandmother: Years ago, that house wasn’t abandoned like it is now. The residents of the house were the Houston family. One rainy night, the door of the mansion was knocked. The servant opened the door, and a man was standing there. The Houston family let this stranger into their home. Days passed… but the man never left. One day, the family’s 22-year-old daughter, Serena Houston, went down into the cellar. There… she saw a creature. The creature was human-like but a supernatural being. It was kneeling in the cellar; its head bowed, arms resting on its knees. Its muscular body was partially visible in the darkness. Its skin was grayish-black, dull as if petrified. Its most striking features were the large, upward-curving horns on its head and its thick, crimson-feathered wings. Serena fainted the moment she saw the creature. The servant found her unconscious but said there was no one in the cellar. From that day on, Serena could not speak. She did not eat or drink… The house’s residents locked her in a room, and she died there years later. The stranger never appeared again. According to the rumor, the creature Serena saw in the cellar was the stranger who came to the house. And he was a devil. The reason the girl died early was that devil. Her guardian angel imprisoned that devil in the cellar. After the house was abandoned, those who went there said they heard strange sounds from the cellar and prayers recited in an unknown language. Because of the rumors, no one had dared to go to that house for years. So the creature I saw was a devil. And the one who imprisoned it there was an angel. But how was it that the devil became free after all these years? Was I the reason? Grandmother: Why are you asking about the mansion, Lina? If you want to go there, don’t. Even if there’s no devil, I don’t want you entering a house like that. It has been unmaintained for years; any part of it could collapse at any moment. I don’t want you to get hurt. Lina: Don’t worry, grandmother. I won’t go there. I was just curious and asked. My grandmother and I sat quietly in the house. She was knitting, and I was thinking about the creature. Suddenly, the doorbell rang. It was an elderly woman—my grandmother’s friend. She wore a tattered but extravagant shawl and rings with stones on her fingers. As soon as she entered, she carefully scanned the room, as if sensing something invisible. My grandmother made her a cup of coffee, and they started chatting. During the conversation, the woman offered to read my grandmother’s fortune. She was a fortune teller. Could she read the writings on the paper I found in the cellar? Unable to resist, I asked the question that came to my mind. Lina: Could you read writings in an ancient language? Or explain the meaning of some strange symbols? My grandmother was surprised by my question. The woman, however, answered confidently. Fortune Teller: Of course. Can you show me the writing and symbols? I ran to my room, grabbed the paper on the dresser, and handed it to her. Lina: Could you tell me what these symbols and writings mean? The woman took the paper in her hands, squinted, and examined it carefully. Suddenly, a look of fear spread across her face; her eyes widened. Then she spoke. Her voice was slightly shaky but serious: Fortune Teller: This… this is a contract. But not an ordinary one. A contract written by a devil… Lina: What does the contract say? Fortune Teller: This contract was written by an imprisoned devil. It reads as follows: *"I am the offspring of the devil created by God from smokeless fire. They stole my power. They bound me with sealed chains. On Earth, they imprisoned me in a dark place. O child of man, created from the soil, open the door of this cellar. Undo the sealed chains that bind me. Grant me my freedom. In return: You will be given the ability to withhold what you do not wish. Ask of me whatever you desire. But there is a price: You will remain by my side and help me until I regain the power I lost. And in the end: I will become as powerful as before, and you shall receive what you desire."* As the woman read the paper, a chill ran through me. I had not agreed to this contract—but how had the cellar door opened? Fortune Teller: As for the symbols’ meanings: Circle and Dot Inside a Triangle: Meaning "Observing Witness." Represents a divine being who knows and sees but does not intervene. Usually witnesses the contract. Flame-Like Symbol: Meaning "Inner Fire." Indicates the passions, anger, or desires of the person making the contract. Inverted Star-Like Pentagram: Meaning "Seal Breaker." The power that unlocks the being imprisoned in the cellar. Usually dangerous. Dots and Circles Connected by Lines: Meaning "Chain of Bondage." Shows that the soul is bound to the body and the dark being. Symbolizes the irreversibility of the contract. Vertical Line Below Triple Dots: Meaning "Path Opener." Represents the soul’s passage beyond the three-dimensional world to other realms. Usually activated with blood. Seal at the Bottom with Bloodstains: Meaning "Soul Seal." These bloodstains indicate the contract was sealed with living blood, creating a spiritual bond. The symbol is now imprinted not only on the text but on the person’s fate. Lina: I don’t understand… Fortune Teller: This means the contract was accepted by someone. Contracts with devils are signed in blood by humans. Fear enveloped my entire body. I… I had, unknowingly and unwillingly, made a contract with a devil.
