CHAPTER THREE In the morning, to her surprise it was Tina who came to fetch her. Perhaps they felt she had learned her lesson. And she could not get far in her shackles, especially now that her feet hurt her at each step. Tina gave her breakfast, then took her to the bathroom, where she washed her clean with something approaching tenderness, as if for a fellow victim. Tina found some ointment which soothed Cressida’s poor lacerated feet, then dressed her in some white cotton underwear, a short black skirt and white cotton blouse. Cressida felt almost human again. Nothing much happened for the rest of the day. Tina and Cressida sat around the kitchen drinking cups of coffee and engaging in casual conversation.
