CHAPTER NINE Sandhu opened the door to Ruslan’s apartment and let the girls through in single file. He ordered them to stop as he closed the door behind them. Cressida’s eyes took a moment to adjust to the semi–darkness at this end of the room. But the other end, where Ruslan sat on a gilded chair like a throne, was brightly lit by a dozen flickering candles. As Sandhu pushed the girls forward again, Cressida saw that two of the girls, Sophia and Carmen, had been transformed into candelabras, positioned on either side of Ruslan.
