**Story Synopsis**
Jake and Riley visit Emily at home while she’s bedridden with a high fever. What begins as genuine concern and love for their sick girlfriend/best friend slowly ignites into something neither ever imagined.

I pulled up to Emily’s house a little after 3 p.m. Riley was already waiting on the porch, backpack slung over one shoulder. She gave me a small, worried smile as I got out of the car.
“Hey Jake,” she said quietly. “Thanks for coming with me. I didn’t want to come alone.”
“No problem,” I replied. “How’s she doing?”
“Her mom said the fever’s still pretty high and she’s been sleeping most of the day.”
We let ourselves in with the spare key Emily’s parents had given us months ago.
