Chapter 8 “Is she asleep?” I looked up and saw Ned standing in the doorway, a glass of milk in his hand. His shadow flickered in the silly night light I had put in Lily’s room. “Yeah, she’s asleep.” I looked at the milk. “You’re a good man, Ned,” I said as he handed me the glass. “I always liked some milk before bed. I used to have some serious nightmares, and my Dad would tell me the milk was magic and would keep me from having bad dreams.” “I guess I better drink it.” I sipped and looked down at Lily. “She fell asleep the minute her head hit the pillow.
