Adalynn POV
It is a beautiful Saturday morning, so I am heading to The Black Moon River, the King’s home territory, to work out in the gym. I train with a couple of girls from school, and after some cardio and speed training, we like to take a run. We usually run 5 miles every Saturday. I work with our trainers three times a week, mostly sparing, fighting in wolf form, and running the agility and strength course.
I enjoy working out, and being the daughter of a Red Dawn Packs Beta means I must work extra hard at everything, including training and schooling, to uphold the loyal and strong Beta reputation. At least twice a month, the Alpha has a pack run for all members who have their wolves.
I know being the daughter of a beta has specific paths to follow, but my dream is to be a pack doctor when I leave school. Instead of attending college for many years, I plan to work with the pack doctor and train in the hospital. Although wolves can heal themselves much faster than humans and get sick very rarely, sometimes, there is a need to help the wolf along, especially if silver or wolfsbane has been used.
After my workout, Phoenix, my wolf, said she wanted to stretch her legs. Since it’s been a week, I decided it would be good for her. I left the training grounds and headed toward the wood line. I undressed, stashed my clothing, stepped into the woods about a foot, and told Phoenix, ‘Have at it, girl.’
Phoenix took charge and shifted into her wolf. She is gorgeous; her thick auburn coat is the same color as my hair and stands out, as it’s unusual for a wolf to have my coloring. I have green eyes, but Phoenix’s eyes are more noticeable than mine since they are a brighter green.
I laid back in my mind, allowing her to take over. They stretched and sniffed the cool morning air before rushing into the woods. She loves to run, to feel the wind through her fur and the dirt beneath her paws. She is yipping as she jumps logs and runs under fallen trees. She ran through the fields, separating the crop fields. We ran by the omega farmhands as they planted this year’s crops. Phoenix stopped when she got near the small lake, where she got a drink and lay in the grass to soak up the warm sun.
While she was basking in the morning sun by the lake, she witnessed a doe and her fawn slowly walking on the other side of the lake. They carefully headed toward the lake’s edge to get a small drink of water. Out of nowhere, two wolves jumped out and ran after the deer. You could tell the wolves were playing, but that didn’t stop Phoenix from growling and snarling at the two youngsters. She knew they were new shifters having fun, but chasing deer for fun was stupid. They stopped when they heard Phoenix and ran back towards the packhouse.
We lay back down, and my mind wandered back to my boyfriend, Scott. Scott is the Alpha heir to my pack, and we’ve been dating for almost two years. We’ve known each other our entire lives and have always been best friends, but that changed about two years ago. We started looking at each other as more than just friends.
Scott turned eighteen a couple of months back and hasn’t found his mate yet, which gives us hope that we will be destined mates. I am in love with Scott. He’s the sweetest and most loving wolf. We can’t wait until I turn eighteen in December so we can start our lives together.
Many she-wolves from ranked families kept their Virtue intact because we believe it makes our mate stronger, and if they’re high-ranked members, it will make the pack stronger. We all know guys don’t play by the same rules, but that is how our society works. Wolves are highly s****l creatures.
After a werewolf’s wolf spirit awakens and after their eighteenth birthday, they are able to sense their fated mate—the one promised by the moon goddess herself. They would know each other immediately by their scent. It would be the most intoxicating scent ever. I can’t wait to take a whiff of my mate’s scent.
‘Phoenix, I am curious. Do you feel Scott’s wolf, Jax? Have you been able to reach out to him? I’ve heard mates sometimes can feel each other’s wolves before identifying them as mates?’
‘No, not yet. I haven’t sensed Jax yet, but I share your fondness for Scott. Do not worry; we still have some time before your birthday.’ She consoled me.
