Dakota and I are upstairs watching TV, and I am just about to close my eyes when Dad yells at us through the link, "Get downstairs, now!" We both jump and open the room door to find my Mom running out of her room into the hallway. Dad meets us at the bottom of the stairs and ushers us into the basement, and we hear the click of the padlocks on the door.
'Stay quiet. Someone will be here shortly to take you to the packhouse.' Dad says through the link. Dakota grabs my hand, and I pull her into a tight hug. 'It will be OK. Dad is out there, and I am sure Steve will be here soon.' Just breathe.' I whispered.
