Alice
I wiped the pouring tears off my eyes, left the boulder, and relocated to the bottom of the tree which stood by its side. The rain had begun to subside but continued to fall in drizzles, which were light enough to be shielded from me by the tree's broad leaves, while I came up with a plan.
The only solution I had left was to escape. The pack was beginning to be dangerous for me, and I needed to get away to somewhere safe so I could come up with a proper plan on how to bring down whoever I would find out my enemy was.
I don't remember being familiar with anyone in town so for now, that somewhere safe was the Rogues' pack. I didn't trust them that much but compared to the dubious Excelsis pack, they were a better option.
Now that I had my destination settled, I had to figure out my escape route and strategy. The pack's territory layout looked basic but haven taken a survey before, I knew it was more unique than it seemed.
The houses of the members of our pack were built in a carefully planned pattern, and it was more like a fortress. We didn't have a fence to close our settlement in, but we did have guards which patrolled every inch of the territory in search of potential threats and to make sure we were all secure. Apart from the patrolling warriors, anyone who dared to trespass or escape had to get past loads of strategically mounted cameras with 360 vision and the watchtower mounted at the far end of the settlement which stood at constant watch no matter the time of the day.
There was hardly any activity that went on the open that wasn't monitored, and in case of abnormalities, the watch wolf would sound a signal, and guards would flock out in their numbers, examine the threat and exterminate when necessary. The only way out of the pack was out front and onto the main road.
If at all one could sneak through the surveillance wolves, he or she would still have to first get past the main or Alpha house's security, before finally attaining freedom. It was a hectic task, one that would employ most of my skills, and needed to be well calculated before being executed.
The mud stuck in my fur was beginning to itch me so I walked lazily down to a nearby stream to get a bath. The water was icy but I didn't mind as long as it would help me cool my tensed muscles and wash off my tears and bleeding heart. I got in till my full length, leaving only my face just above the water surface. It felt real soothing so I wiggled my bulk frame in the water and began waddling about carelessly while I thought of my next move. I had already had what I needed to keep me clothed but only for today. My makeshift sleeping bag and blanket would come in handy for sure but what was all that without something to put on and some supplies?
The rain had reduced greatly but the slim drizzles wouldn't stop falling. I got out of the water wiggling off sprinkles into the air before transitioning to my human form. My taste buds had begun to grow sore so I moistened them up with some grapes before reaching into my backpack to get something to change into.
The night was growing dark as well, with the more swollen clouds shielding off the moon. With that dim lighting, I quickly dried up myself and put on a shirt and some trousers, before I knocked off some water from my hair and wound it into a secure knot. For the mission I had in mind, I needed to be as portable as ever so that when the time came, nothing would weigh me down on my escape, well, except my backpack.
Now without my usual night vision power possessed by my werewolf, I needed something to lighten my path with. So I reached Into my pockets and the sides of the backpack but I couldn't find it. Then it hit me!
I had left it in one of the makeup drawers and must have forgotten to retrieve it on my way out. How could I be so restless? The one thing I could use to get across to Mrs. Allen was sitting idly in a drawer. How fantastic!
I needed to grab a few changes of clothes, supplies, and, as it would seem, my phone. The rain felt less serious when I checked it once more before walking back home. While on the way, I couldn't help but think if I was overreacting.
I mean, Jonathan and his friends were all drunk when they said those things but they sounded so real. I shrugged off the doubt and trudged on until I began approaching the main house.
With a cap on my face, recognizing me was a difficult task. Also to my advantage was that the streets were empty so I didn't have to avoid pretty much anyone till I sneaked up the main house's backdoor. I had detached a key from the bunch attached to the door so I plugged it in the knob and began unlocking.
Before pushing open the door, I listened carefully for any movements inside. The lights inside were still as bright as a few minutes ago when I left. Fearing I would run into Jonathan, I held the door slightly ajar so I could take a peep and when I made sure Jonathan was nowhere to be found, I walked in slowly.
The door's creaking as I tried to close it sounded very loudly but I did my best to suppress it.
"Why would Jonathan not switch off the lights before he slept?" I wondered aloud.
Or perhaps it was some sort of trap. Being as cautious as ever, I stock my backpack with some food supplies, before making my way into the living room.
"Oh my God!" I gasped silently as I saw Jonathan sprawled out on the floor.
He must have passed out from all that drinking. I tiptoed over to make sure he was still alive and when I saw his chest heave, I ran upstairs quickly to accomplish my purpose for coming here.
Not having fully moved in, I just had a few clothes with me and if I was considering using the backpack while packing the sleeping bag and blanket, it wouldn't be enough. So I switched to using a little larger satchel. It looked a little out of fashion but effective it was and that was fine by me.
I pulled down the rusty zip, hoping it would be enough to accommodate my belongings, and began filing them in, every piece of them. When I was done packing my bag, I fell on the comfy bed and brought out my phone.
All along I knew my mother may not be safe around Brayden after my departure so I sent a message across to Mrs. Polly to look after her during my absence. I also made a quick call to my mom to inform her that I would be away for a while. She was hesitant at first but after convincing her I would be back she finally agreed to let Mrs. Polly look after her.
My mother may have been a little secretive around me but I still loved her and had to make sure of her safety.
A sudden urge to speak with Brayden came over me. It had been hours since we last saw each other and I was beginning to miss him. I knew we had parted on a bad note, and I wasn't supposed to, but I couldn't stop thinking about him. Brayden must still be upset about what happened earlier, I thought, but I didn't know what else to do so I called him.
The phone rang twice but he didn't pick it up. I knew he must have received my calls and was ghosting me so I rang it the third time, and the fourth. I was beginning to give up but I dialed his number one last time and just as I was about to hang up, the line was picked up.
"Hello!" I whispered so as not to disturb the silent house.
The line was silent as well but after a while, I heard a feminine voice, one I suspected to be Megan's.
"Hello! Miss Alice?"
"Yes, it's me, Megan! Where is your brother?"
"He just dropped the phone on my lap and stormed outside. Why are you talking in whispers?" She asked.
"I'm in a bit of a situation and I need your brother to come to get me. Tell him I love him so much and I would apologize as much as I can for everything when we meet, even though I don't see any wrong in what I did. But right now my life's at stake and I need his help badly."
"I'm not sure he would listen to me. Ever since you left he hasn't said a word to anyone or even left his room. I'm surprised that your call brought him out of there."
I sighed. "It is that bad? I'm sorry I had no idea. Okay, at least get your mother on the phone, please."
"Hello, Alice. I've heard all you said. What's going on?" Mrs. Allen spoke. She must have been listening in on the call.
"I don't understand what's going on, so I can't explain that much. But all I know is I need to get out of here as fast as I can before anyone spots me."
"Okay, what do I help you with?"
"I need a car waiting if I struggle to make it out, could you help me with that?"
She was about to respond when I heard a noise downstairs and a set of footsteps marching up the stairs.
