Memories of North A

283 Words
North A is surrounded by trees. It is located in a valley, guarded by mountains. Wherever you are in the city you can see the snowy peaks. The train takes you to Oldtown and G City, from there even further south. There is no reason to go north. Why? No more towns, not even people live in those parts. It's a wasteland I was walking in the woods again. Those woods. It was silent, the sun beamed through the leaves but in the shade the temperature was noticably colder. Summer was on the rise, flowers bloomed around me. I leaned over to smell one, and I noticed my hands. They were human hands. My old fingers, way before I burned them in an accident. Was that truly an accident though? Or was I so careless, so deeply entrenched in pain and the raindrops that I made it happen on purpose? Did I hate my hands so much that I burned them off myself? I had to get out of this, but I couldn't. The Rurals with it's charming woods and hills - the general beauty was a deadly trap for those that ventured in too deep. Nature had it with the Enhanced. We were safe from it in the cities, cut off from our senses, but when one had to face the uncontolled life out here, that often proved dangerous. For most it was a sight better enjoyed on pictures, maybe from the protected windows of the trains. I grew up here. Scared as I was now, I still knew this place. Every tree, every flower, every road. I knew where they lead. But I was afraid to start on any of them.
