Still A Chance

Kenzie POV

It didn't take them long to take down the rogues, and Luna was more than content now that she was allowed to release some tension. Tristan was winded and trying to catch his breath while the two made their way back towards the pack boundary.

"Hey, do you think I should stay outside the pack boundary? I don't want the patrols to kill me or anything. I never thought I would ever go rogue. Can we get a message to my parents, you think, you know, so they know what happened and where I am going?" Tristan questioned once they were in sight of the border.

"You will be fine, we literally just killed about 100 rogues, and you are concerned about your patrol, which you have known your whole life. I think they will not shoot, and we will be just fine. Just hurry up! Hopefully, Dad is on his way out, and we can just meet up with him and not have to worry about him." Kenzie thought it was hilarious the pack wouldn't kill him, they loved him that much she did know.

"Hey sweetie, I know this is different, and you didn't know we had a family link, but this is it. Can you and Tristan please come to the Alpha's office?" Nathaniel linked to her. She was shocked that she could do that. She had never had any linking connection with anyone other than her girls. Wait, could he always do this? Why didn't he link her when she got her wolf and tell her everything? The two of them were together for a year before they took him away from her? She has to stop, she can't wallow in her own thoughts, she has things to do.

"Why? Have you always been able to link me?" Kenzie linked Nathaniel back once she figured out how to do it that is.

"Just please, Kenz, and yes I have, but could not risk it. I told you that you could hate me if you wanted to. I made what choices I thought were best. I could have been wrong. Just meet me please, after this we will be on our way to the Dragon Kingdom and once we get out of the contract you can decide about up then, does that sound alright?" Nathaniel pleaded through the link.

"Tristan and I are on our way. Can someone link his parents to, he would like to say goodbye to them before we leave. I don't think he realized he was a rogue until you informed him. He is petrified he will be killed crossing the border. He is an excellent man, willing to abandon everything he knew for what he thought was right." Kenzie linked Nathaniel back, then cut the link, she was done talking to him and wanted to stew in her thoughts all the way to the dumb Alpha's office. What did they need to go there for?

"So Nathaniel just linked me, he would like us to meet him in the Alpha's office." That was all she could say. After that, she just headed in the direction they needed to go.

Back to her spiraling thoughts, she knew that she had people in her life now, but that was becoming more complicated by the second. She didn't like that there already seemed to be so much deceit, secrets, and lies. She wants normal or some semblance of it. Maybe she should just be happy with human interaction that isn't robotic and only work.

Tristan POV

Kenzie went from being an unstoppable beast to silent. He noticed she was linking and let her talk but when she snapped that Nathaniel was the one to link and that they had to go to the Alpha's office, he understood why she was upset. Wonder what Nathaniel was thinking about wanting her back in a situation that hurt her so badly. Hopefully, he will get to say goodbye to his family. Why couldn't Roberto just accept her, and then we would be planning a Luna ceremony and everyone could be happy. He was just going to follow Kenzie. She didn't look like she wanted to talk, and he would allow her her silence. She didn't have much experience with social interactions. That much he knew. Before long, the two were standing just outside the office. Tristan knocked just like he had a million times, only this time he wasn't a Beta but a rogue and Roberto was no longer his best friend.

Roberto POV

The knock at the door was pointless, he smelled her before they were even close. She was really alive. He hadn't killed her. His mate lived and breathed. He was a happy man and if that was all he ever got, he would be happy just to see her happy and alive.

"Please come in!" Roberto asked the two to enter.

"Please can you two sit, Alpha Roberto has something he would like to tell you both, and then he assured me, no matter the outcome, that Tristan would be allowed to see his family before our departure." Nathaniel addressed the two once they entered the office. Both sat in the empty chairs across from Alpha's desk while Nathaniel stood behind Alpha Roberto, across from them.

"I would like to start with you, mate, if I could please?" Roberto looked to Kenzie.

"Mate, what nonsense are you spouting? We aren't mates. You rejected me, remember?" Kenzie screamed.

"I took back my rejection, and if I could take it all back I would. I was afraid you would reject me, so I rejected you first. Why would someone so perfect want me? When you came to my office after I just got done having s*x? I didn't want you to get one over on me, so I made the worst mistake I could. I rejected you, tortured you and killed you! I am the worst mate on the face of the planet, but I want to take it all back and start again. I will take whatever punishment you want to give me other than never being in my life. I need you to breathe and exist. I need you please, Kenzie, give me a chance. Give us both a chance to have our souls completed." Roberto had exited his chair and was kneeling in front of Kenzie pleading.

"I... I don't know…" Kenzie had no clue what to say, she hadn't even sorted through all that had been done already, and now he wanted to take it all back.

"I understand, Kenzie, but can you I mean we try. I want to know everything about you in any capacity you will let me. It would be great to say that we could be loving mates, but I didn't expect that right away. I just want to know that I still have a chance at maybe someday?" Roberto was still on his knees in front of her. He did not fault her at all for her reservations.

"Tristan, I am sorry to you Brother. I should have listened to you and I didn't, and I can't even blame you for taking her side and wanting to protect her. I am thankful you care about her even when I can't. I know you probably won't accept my apology either, but I wanted to say it. I would like to reinstate you in the pack and I will allow you to leave with Kenzie, but I don't want you to be a rogue. In fact, if the two of you allow it, I would like to come along with you, wherever that is. I'm not sure where you are going or for even how long, but the Gamma can take control for a while, at least a couple of months. Allow me time to try and make up for our brutal start and get to know you a little better, Kenzie?" Roberto looked hopefully to both Kenzie and Tristan.

" I think that sounds like a good plan, Alpha. We could use the extra protection. We are going against the agency though, so please know that before you decide to join us." Nathaniel answered to both Tristan and Kenzie.

"If you are going against the agency, of course I will go. I won't let them hurt my mate, I will protect her with my life. When do we leave? Roberto answered Nathaniel.
