❁Chapter II: They Invented Cellphones For a Reason❁ "Hey cute geeky girl." Drew said while sitting next to me on a bench in the school courtyard. "Urm hey." I said while flipping a page in my book. "Do you seriously just sit here every morning? You know that school starts in an hour." He said letting out a chuckle. "Yeah I just got here early for today." I said while giving him a small smile. And crossing my leg. "Oh why?" He asked sounding curious all of a sudden. I got in a fight with my brother this morning about his party that I'm clearly not invited to but I really want to go. And it's being held at my house. Which is bull because I deserve to go since it's being held at my house, it's like saying that I can't go to my house for the night. My parents really aren't any help because they have their own party that they are going to. "Just my big brother is throwing some party with his friends at our house and I can't go to it. So we got in a huge argument over it." I said while closing my book. "Wow, when is it?" He asked while getting out his phone and putting it on his lap. "Saturday night." I said while clearing my throat. "Ah okay, hey will just let me know if you want to do something that night away from your house." He said while flashing me a smile. "Okay? Do you agree with him?" I asked while raising an eyebrow and crossing my arms. "I mean those parties are pretty messed up. That's why I hardly go to any that some of our classmates throw." He said with a sigh. "Oh, and how will I let you know?" I asked him while uncrossing my leg and looking at him. "They invented cellphones for a reason." He said with a laugh while pointing to his phone.  I mentally slapped myself. Why is this obnoxious jock making me feel this way? I mean, he's just an average player who might play me. Like he does with all the others. I try not to listen to those rumors about him, because I'm not much of a fan of them. It's just typical high school, it's a boring place so why not make some sort of entertainment while you're here. "Oh right." I said while handing him my phone and him handing over his to me.  After we exchanged numbers, he smiled at me then stood up which made me stand up. It looks like he was lost in thought. What on earth was he thinking so hard about? I noticed how when he thinks of something, he furrows his eyebrows together and looks down. Which I find completely cute in a guy. "Would you want to go to Starbucks with me? I'll pay." He said while flashing me his pearly whites. "Um yeah sure. As long as we won't be late." I said while giving him a serious look on my face. "Don't worry. I promise that we won't be late for school." He said with a chuckle and grabbed my hand and we started to walk out the doors. ♕|♕|♕|♕| "This is clearly the best." I moaned while taking another sip of my green tea frappucino. "Clearly." He said with a laugh then sipped on his coffee. "So tell me about yourself." I said with a chuckle and played with my dark green straw. "Okay. Well I play lacrosse just like my older brother and sister do. My favorite color is lime green. I have a small birthmark on my hip the shape of a potato. I have no allergies. I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. And I'm a player as you heard." He said with a frown at the last part. I was just looking at him. Why is he a player? I have so many other questions but I'm not going to push him. Maybe some other time. We just sat there for a little bit, he probably just wants me to take things in my head about him. So his family is a lacrosse family then. I have to ask him about his siblings. I remember his sister. She was a senior when we were freshmen. "Um, we should go." I said while standing up and throwing away my empty cup. "Yeah, we don't want to ruin your reputation by being late to one class now do we?" He asked while standing up and finishing his drink. On our way to school, he asked me about myself. And that it's my turn to answer things about myself just like he did. So here I am in the passenger's seat, thinking of how to start off explaining myself. So with a deep breath, I just started to babble about myself, hopefully I won't mess up or say something completely embarrassing. "I'm top of the senior class, I have an older brother, Marcus who was eighth of his class in high school, my favorite color is light pink, I'm allergic to peanuts, and I have an obsession with macaroons." I said while letting out a sigh of relief. Drew just chuckled. While turning on his blinker then making a left turn and then going towards the school. "Wow, so you have to be the best because of your brother." He said while giving me a smirk. I just rolled my eyes. Of course he would only listen to that part. So after he parked his car, I unbuckled my seatbelt and then opened the door hopefully I won't be late. "So um thank you for Starbucks, I'll pay you back in class." I said once we both got out the same time. "No no it's okay. It was my treat. I don't want anything in return for it." He said while locking his car then we both walked up to the school. Everyone was looking at us with a curious look. As if they hadn't seen a geek with a jock together before. We aren't a couple or a thing. Just simple acquaintances that are on the verge of being friends. There's nothing wrong with a girl and a boy being friends while nothing is going on between them. "Well thank you, and I'll see you later." I said with a nod then we both went our separate ways. ♕|♕|♕|♕| When the bell rang to signal that 3rd period was over, we gathered our things together. Then, we walked out of the classroom next to each other then stopped and faced each other. "I'll text you later." He said while flashing me a smile. "Okay then." I said with a nod then started to walk to my next class. I just hope that he would actually text me back. And be true to his word. Because guys like him, don't go well with freaks like me. Believe me, I am a freak. A geeky freakshow. He wants someone who's better looking than I am. |♕|♕|♕|♕| "Okay so tell me all about your date this morning with Drew." Keely gushed while biting on her calzone. Today's special is obviously calzones. On Thursdays they have calzones. I make sure not to bring my lunch on this very day. I don't get why Keely would assume that it was a date, she isn't the only one, people all day kept saying that we make a cute couple, which we clearly aren't. I really don't understand how people work these days. You hang out outside of school with one guy, and the next thing you know you two are officially a couple. "It wasn't a date." I stated while giving her a look. "It totally was. You're just too naïve to think it's something more." She said with a chuckle. "I am not. And it was just a hang out, not a date." I stated with a sigh while drinking my Dasani strawberry flavored water bottle. "Believe whatever you want to believe sweet cheeks." She said with a laugh while taking a giant bite from her calzone. ♕|♕|♕|♕ While I was laying on my bed doing my homework, my iPhone buzzed next to me. I looked at the screen and smiled like an i***t. Drew: Hey cute geeky girl:) I chuckled at that nickname he called me on here. He would. Me: Hey cute jocky boy I sent it with confidence and then put my phone down and then continued on working on my homework. Then my phone buzzed. Drew: I think it's sexy jocky babe;) I rolled my eyes then replied back to the text message. Me: Haha okay hot jocky boy:) Then Marcus walked in my bedroom while giving me a smile and holding his iPhone next to his ear. "Hey um mom went to visit one of her clients in a nuthouse that's six hours away, so she's just gonna crash at a nearby hotel and dad is having a guys night out with his friends." He said with a chuckle. Then my phone buzzed. And Marcus raised an eyebrow while letting out a smirk. He then dialed some number into his cellphone. While I replied to Drew's text message. "So what is it Marcus?" I asked while putting away my finished homework then sat up on my bed. That's what happens when you do some of your homework at school. The perks of being a geek. I don't want to respond to Drew's text message that he sent right now. Because then Marcus will be suspicious about me replying back so fast to a message. And he's that annoying overprotective brother that you would read about. "I was just wondering if you want some Chinese. I can order egg rolls for you if you would want." He said with a chuckle. "Yeah um sure." I said with a confirm nod. "Okay then." He said with a smile then walked out. I then replied back to Drew's text message. Then stood up and grabbed some orange sofies and a black tank top that makes my boobs look huge but eh no one can see me. Then I walked into the bathroom with my phone. I then opened the linen and grabbed a black towel and placed it on the sink counter where my clothes are and turned on the shower. When I got out I put my clothes on then walked out of the bathroom while drying my hair. While carrying my phone then texting Naomi. I then heard my brother talking to another boy. Probably his frat brother. Well one of them at least. "Come on bro." Some Asian guy said while raising his arms in the air looking like he was surrendering. "No, I don't want you here while Carly is here." He said with a frustrated sigh and sat down on the couch. Hiding behind my staircase is clearly annoying, I don't get how some kids can do it while spying on their parents when they get in a fight. So I now decide to come out and meet one of my brother's drunk buddies. "Marcus? When's the food getting here?" I asked while crossing my arms across my stomach. "Oh hey, and thirty minutes." He said while giving me an awkward smile and fixing the couch pillow. "Ah you must be the beautiful Carly I heard all about." He said while giving me a too friendly grin. "Urm yeah I guess?" I said while sitting down next to Marcus. "You look really hot when you're a clueless blonde." He said with a chuckle. "Watch it Rithers." Marcus spat while standing up. The doorbell rang, and he walked up to the door and answered it then took out his wallet and handed the person a twenty while he received a Chinese bag that looks like a McDonald's one. "Sorry bro. Anyways can I join you guys?" He asked while smiling at the both of us. "Can we talk in the kitchen Marcus? Please." I said while grabbing his muscular arm. Once we both were in the kitchen, he put the bag on the kitchen island and while I sat on the bar stool that looks like a dining chair but taller and the seat part is small. "Why is he here? I mean he's not eating with us right?" I asked while texting Drew back. "He just knocked on the door and I thought that it was the Chinese food delivery person. Then Juan just walked in and wanted to hang out. But I told him that he can't be here when you're here." He then put out two dark red squared plates. "And I hope he doesn't stay here because I only got enough food for the two of us." He said while taking out the white containers. I opened my fortune cookie and smashed it while grabbing my fortune. I mean who the hell eats them anyways? I then read my fortune while letting out a chuckle. You'll find love in all sorts of places. I then grabbed my plate that had chicken loy mein and white rice on the bottom of it. I put two egg rolls on top of it. Earning a small laugh from Marcus. "Oh yeah? What does your fortune cookie say to you?" I asked while tossing him a wrapped up fortune cookie. He then smirked while opening it and then eating a bite from his cookie while taking out a small note. "Keep an eye on your future, it's really bright." He said while shaking his head and started to eat. "I'll call you later bro! See you at school tomorrow!!!" Juan yelled. Then I heard the door slam shut. My brother goes to Clemson university which is about thirty five minutes away from my house. He was living in a frat house, but my dad didn't like it so he wanted Marcus to move back. "He's weird." I said while using my chopsticks and started eating my Chinese food. "Totally." He said letting out a chuckle and started to eat his rice.
