Tristan pov.
One week. One week since I saw her last. When she ran away from me, I still didn't know why. Her scent disappeared by the river. After that, she was nowhere to be found. Axl was a whimpering puddle just feeling sorry for himself. At first, I told him to knock it off, that we would find her again. But now I am not so sure anymore. My pack knew something was wrong, even if just the people closest to me knew what had happened. But everyone could feel it, a dark cloud hanging over my head. I would be out searching for her for days, Axl howling after his mate. But she never answered his calls. I came home around midnight, trying not to wake someone up as I entered the house.
" Have you ever considered that maybe she does not want to be found?"
I stopped in my tracks and let out a small sigh. Dragging one hand through my dirty hair, I turned around and faced Ian.
" She is my mate, I can't just let her run away like that. And if that was the case. Why didn't she reject me?"
Ian just stared at me, trying to formulate a good enough answer.
"I don't know. But you are an alpha. Alpha always puts his people first, before everything else."
With that, he started backing away and finally turned around and left the room. I stood there in silence, trying to process everything that had happened. My beautiful mate, Onyx. Where are you?..
Onyx pov.
My belly rumbled. I hadn't eaten for days. My legs were sore from all the walking. I was sitting by a large tree just letting time pass. I still hadn't heard from Maya, I was all alone in my misery. One day late at night, I thought I heard a wolf in the distance, crying out in pain. I tried to shake off the feeling that I knew the wolf. In an attempt to make it easier not to turn around and go back to my mate. I did this to protect him, but it felt like I was hurting him more. I tried calling Maya one last time in my mind, scared of being alone. But she did not answer. " Stupid f*****g wolf. Why are you doing this?" I hit the tree with my fist, angry at the whole situation. In an instant, Maya put down the block in my mind, but she was not happy. She was growling and had her tail high up in the air. Stomping with her front paws and showing her shiny white teeth. "Stupid, stupid human. You ran away from our mate, our true love."
I pulled at my hair like a madman, enraged by my naive wolf. " You don't get it furball. I am trying to look after him and keep him safe. But you are maybe too stupid to understand that?" My voice was breaking at this point. Tears were flowing down my cheeks, I harshly wiped them away with the back of my hand. Maya snarled at me in my mind, her eyes shooting lightning bolts at me. " Why the moon goddess decided to pair me with you, I will never understand. But you will no longer be in charge from now on. I will handle everything!" With that being said, a sharp pain was radiating through me. With a moan, I got on all fours, trying to control the pain. Bones started cracking and I shrieked, trying to crawl away from the thing hurting me. I was shifting, my hands forming into paws, my claws digging in into the dirt and my now sharp canines clattering against each other. Maya was pulling me further and further away in her mind. Blocking me from trying to take control. I was no longer the one in charge, I could only ride along and watch from a distance.

Finally! I was in control. The stupid human did not know what she was doing. I stretched my big body and let out a small sigh. I don't need Onyx if she can't make good decisions. It would be better this way. This way I can mend things with my mate, and be with him forever. But first I need to eat something. This human the moon goddess, gifted me with has not fed us in days. And I am starving for something to eat. I sniffed the air, trying to find any interesting scent to follow. And soon I trotted towards the smell of elk. In my mind Onyx tried to fight me, but I just pushed her further and further away in my mind. And soon it was all quiet. Now more nagging about what we should do, now I am in charge. And it will stay that way, until she can prove to me that she deserves to be in the loop. But for now I will be enjoying som alonetime. Hunting, running and trying to make it back to my dear mate. But it would take some time, the thing on two legs had made it far away from him. So there will be many hours of tracking until I am on route. These humans are always trying to make it hard for themselves.
I carefully licked the blood from my front paws. My hunger had been satisfied by the big elk I managed to put down. All the meat had made me tired and I took a short nap. At wig breaking made me jump up, my ears twitching to pick up where the sound was coming from. Soon several wolves came out of the shadows. From the look of it, a pack. I started backing away, and a quiet rumbling left my throat. A large brown wolf, probably the leader, started walking towards me like a hunter hunting his pray. My legs were stiff and ready to run any second now. When he lost his focus for a split second, I took my chance. Turning around and making a run for it. I could hear them chasing me, their paws hitting the ground hard and their snarling. But I was quick and I ran like a madman, trying to run away from them. The only problem was that I was only running further away from my mate. But that had to be solved later. For now this had to be te solution.
