Episode 41: An Unlikely Alliance

245 Words
Ezra told a story that mirrored their own—of his pack coerced by the Void Council under threat of annihilation. “They hold our children hostage,” he confessed, voice rough. “They will force us to fight again. I did not choose this path.” Aelin listened, sympathy rising. “We can free them,” she said. “But we need information.” Ezra hesitated. “If I betray them, they’ll know. My life will be forfeit.” Aelin touched his arm. “So will ours if we do nothing.” After a long moment, Ezra nodded. “There is a portal in the Shadow Lands leading to their stronghold,” he whispered. “If we disrupt it, their magic here fades.” They agreed to a tentative alliance. Marcus and Harper stepped from the shadows, and though Ezra bristled, he did not run. As the moon reached its apex, they sealed their pact with a handshake that felt heavier than any contract Aelin had signed. As they dispersed, Aelin couldn't shake the strange feeling that this partnership would change everything. She spent that night writing notes about the mission, scribbling down details about Ezra's haunted eyes and the weight of his promise. The next morning, she explained the plan to Celeste and received a rare nod of approval. She realized there was no turning back; the alliance would test her capacity for trust and leadership, and she vowed to meet that challenge.
