Chapter 4: What Liam Wants, Liam Gets

910 Words
The next day at school, I noticed that everyone was staring at me strangely. Some people whispered behind my back, while others looked at me in bewilderment. The female wolves, in particular, seemed to be giving me hostile looks. I assumed they were confused about Liam speaking to me the previous day, but the amount of attention I was receiving felt excessive. Despite the unwanted attention, I tried to continue my day as usual, hoping that the staring would eventually stop. Unfortunately, I was wrong. It was around noon when Hailey and her clique found me in the restroom. Their expressions made it clear that they were extremely angry, but I clung to the slim hope of avoiding a physical confrontation, considering they had always kept their violent tendencies hidden from the public eye. - So, it seems like you've managed to find someone to feel sorry for you, huh? - she sneered, forcefully grabbing onto my hair - weren't we clear enough about not messing with our wolf boys? Despite the pain coursing through my scalp, I mustered up the courage to meet Hailey's cold gaze. Her grip on my hair tightened, but I knew my body could not take any more beatings so soon and if I wanted to survive the remaining days till graduation, I had to speak up. - I didn't ask for anyone's pity, I swear - I replied, my voice steady, surprising even myself - And I certainly did not mess with any wolf boys, it was just a misunderstanding. - How dare you talk back to me, you worthless piece of trash! - she seethed, her voice filled with venom - You're nothing but a worthless human with no wolf, a burden to this pack. Hailey's friends snickered behind her, agreeing with every word she said. I could feel the stares of other students sneaking looks from the open door, curious yet unwilling to get involved. I opened my mouth to respond, but before I could say anything, the door swung open, revealing Liam standing in the doorway, his eyes blazing with fury. - What's going on here? - Liam demanded, his voice commanding and authoritative. The presence of the alpha's son immediately shifted the dynamics in the room. Hailey released her grip on my hair and took a step back, her friends following suit. - Nothing, Liam - Hailey muttered, trying to hide the fear in her voice - Just teaching this human her place Liam's gaze turned to me, concern etched in his features. He took a step forward, his voice softening. - Are you alright? - he asked, his voice filled with genuine concern. I nodded, still processing the sudden turn of events - I'll be fine - I replied, my voice stronger now - thank you. Liam turned abruptly to Hailey, who was huddled with her friends, trying to keep as much distance as possible from Alpha's son. With a commanding voice, he thundered: - Get out! Right now! The girls let out a frightened yelp and dashed out of the door in a frenzy, their departure so fast that I couldn't even tell who bolted out first - Hailey or one of her trembling companions. I watched the empty door, enjoying the moment of seeing my enemies flee. I don't know how long I savored the moment, but Liam's voice interrupted my thoughts, pulling me out of my reverie: - A smile suits you. I've never seen you smile before - he said. Caught off guard, I stared at him in silence, questioning whether this was a figment of my imagination. Was I dreaming? He did look like an angel that a human like me can only dream of talking to, but again, Hailey’s threats just a few minutes ago felt so real. Sensing my hesitation, Liam patiently waited for my response before resuming the conversation. - I came to inquire about your decision. Is it a deal? - he inquired, his tone tinged with anticipation. Confusion clouded my face as I replied: - What do you mean? I'm sorry, I don't understand. Annoyance flickered across his face as he retorted: - Are all humans so forgetful? Yesterday, I mentioned that I would help you secure Alpha's permission to leave the pack, but I asked for something in return. Realization dawned on me, and I blurted out - Oh, that! I... I thought it was a joke - but the intensity of his gaze made me realize he was serious. Gathering my courage, I continued - I meant to ask, what do you want in exchange for the permit? A breathtaking smile spread across his face, captivating my heart and overwhelming my thoughts. At that moment, nothing else mattered except him. - Say it - I playfully encouraged, though deep down I knew I would yield to whatever request he presented, regardless of reason. - As the future Alpha, I possess everything and have the freedom to do as I please, except for one thing - he confessed - I have never had a human girlfriend. Therefore, before you depart, I'd like you to be my girlfriend for a few weeks, until the graduation ceremony concludes. His words hung in the air, as I stared at him agape, wondering if this was a joke or a dream, because it could never be reality. And though my mind questioned my own sanity and urged caution, my heart whispered acceptance.
