We awoke quietly, the sound of the birds chirping loudly and the sun rising slowly, shining in our eyes. Somehow we had moved to the tree, Jem was leaning against it and I was curled in his arms. I opened my eyes, staring into his sleeping face, and stayed still, staring at him. He looked so innocent when he was sleeping, and I realized distantly this might be the last time I see this sight. I lifted my hand to his face, tracing down his nose, taking in the shape. I traced his cheekbones, around his cheeks, and down his eyebrows. Softly I ran my finger down his chin, pressing against his dimple, before sliding my fingers against his lips.
