Chapter 19

1423 Words

CHAPTER 19 After we’ve finished clearing away I make tea for everyone. We sit together, watching the weather for the rest of the week. I’m wondering what it’s going to be like when I’m away at the writer’s retreat, but it’s another two weeks away and the forecast doesn’t stretch that far. I’m surprised then when he jumps up and offers to show Joel his work. I watch them go, dunking my chocolate hobknob in my tea. Aunt Josie turns to me, “I like him,” she says, “he seems like a really nice bloke.” “Yes, he does,” I agree. “He’s really handsome as well, underneath all that hair.” I clear my throat and try to look indifferent.
