Sam’s POV
It was the morning of the Alpha Aaron and Amelia’s announcement. The last two days had been worse than when he had betrayed the mate bond. I just hoped that once this announcement was done, he would leave me alone and I could hope that his soon to be luna would force him to reject me. Once he was done with me at night, I was sent back out to do chores. I was getting about three hours of sleep a night.
I was currently polishing the stage for the second time because, according to Amelia, I hadn’t done a good enough job the first time.
“What are you doing?” someone behind me asked and scared the s**t out of me. I turned to see Anne standing there.
“Just doing as I was told. You really shouldn’t be in here.” I told her, trying to get her to go away. I just didn’t want her to know what was going on and I know she will know if I look at her. She knew me too well.
“Let me help.”
“No, go before someone sees you. Just go away.”
I could hear her turn on her heel and leave. I continued to polish the floor when I heard someone else walk in, well, two someone else’s.
“God Samantha, can you do anything right? This still looks like crap,” Amelia said from behind me.
“I am sorry, I am trying. It’s old and doesn’t polish well.” I told them.
She stepped forward and stepped on my hand and twisted her foot. I cried out in pain and felt a bone snap in my hand. “Finish this and then help the kitchen prepare the food. I also don’t want to see you tonight. You can spend the night outside like a mutt.” She spat at me and then they walked off. I didn’t look up at them as they walked away. I didn’t want them to see the pain they caused me.
As soon as I was done with the stage, I went to the kitchen and started to help them prepare for the night. Ann was there, but she didn’t say anything to me. I knew I had hurt her feelings when she tried to help, but they would have made it so much worse if they found her helping me and they may have hurt her too and I wouldn’t allow that to happen.
Once everything was set up and people were coming in, I headed outside and walked to the tree line.
“Do you think we can shift?” Rae linked me.
“No, remember the last time we did without permission? I am sorry. I will figure a way out of this.”
“Leave tonight. They will be busy and everyone will be celebrating.”
“We could. It could work. Let’s do it.”
I wanted to tell Anne good-bye, but I knew if I went in there I wouldn’t be able to get away, so I walked the treeline until it got dark and once I thought it was dark enough, I headed for the pack boarder. I walked as quietly as I could and was on the lookout for anyone and didn’t see anybody. I crossed the border and headed away from this place.
I kept my eyes and ears open for anyone who might have seen me, but it seems like it might have worked. I walked until I couldn’t go any further. I was weak from all the chores and lack of food and rest. I found a tree to lean against and soon I was laying down and was sound asleep.
“Found her,” someone yelled out, waking me up. I looked around but didn’t see them. It was time to run. I stood up as fast as I could and took off, but only made it three steps before I was tackled to the ground by an angry wolf. I was on my stomach and I could feel my legs bleeding from the rocks that they scraped across and a stick that was sticking into my stomach. The wolf was snapping its jaws and growling at me. He kept me there until someone came up behind us.
“Let her go,” they growled, and the wolf got off me. I rolled over and a large branch stuck out of my stomach. I reached down on instinct to remove it.
“No, don’t touch it, “ he said, grabbing my arm and pulling me to my feet. I screamed out in pain. It hurt so bad to move. I was seeing black dots in my vision and felt like I was going to vomit.
“Let’s go. The Alpha wants to see you now.” He pulled me with him, as I couldn’t keep my feet under me. It wasn’t long before the wolf that tackled me was there in human form. I didn’t know who these guys were, but I knew they were guards.
“Hurry up,” he said as he grabbed my other arm. I tried for as long as I could. The black spots were getting bigger and the urge to vomit was getting serious.
“I can’t, I am going to vomit,” I tried telling them, but they didn’t listen and kept going and it wasn’t long until I was vomiting as we were walking. I could hear one of them cussing and they finally stopped. As soon as I was done, they continued walking, but the blacks spots took over my vision and I blacked out.
I woke up shivering from the cold. Where ever I was, it was dark and damp and smelled bad. It had to be the dungeon. I had never been down here before, but it was the only place I could think of. I tried to roll over, and that’s when I felt the silver biting into my wrist and burning me.
I laid there, trying to be as still as I could. There was less pain in wrist if I didn’t move. I heard a guard doing what I was assuming was rounds on everyone down here. He came to my cell, and I didn’t look up to acknowledge him at all, but he saw I was awake.
“Good, you're awake. Alpha Aaron has been waiting for you to wake up. I will let him know.”
I didn’t reply because it wouldn’t do me any good. I knew what was in store for me and he might as well kill me because this was hell. Maybe I could provoke him enough that he would finally just do the job. I closed my eyes hoping that sleep would come, but it didn’t because it wasn’t long before I heard Alpha Aarons foots steps stomping down here.
He unlocked my cell and came in without a word. I could feel his anger radiating off of him. He unlocked the cuffs on my hands and grabbed me by my hair, and forced me to go with him. He pulled me into another cell and threw me on the floor. I was quick to crawl to the further corner of the room while he went and stood on the other side of the room. He crossed his arms over his chest and shot daggers at me, not saying anything.
“Do you remember what Friday night was supposed to be for Amelia and me?”
I didn’t reply and just glared at him.
“Do you know how many of my guards I had to send out to look for you because you didn’t listen? They had to miss the celebration and they all know that it is your fault and they will thank you later for that.”
I still didn’t say anything and continued to glare at him. It seemed to infuriate him even more.
“f*****g answer me!” He roared.
When I still didn’t answer, he stormed over to me and grabbed me by my hair again. He brought me to a table in the middle of the room.
“Place your hands on the table Samantha,” he said with venom in his voice, but I reused to do it. I would defy him every chance I got. He let go of my hair and grabbing my hands and slamming them on the table.
“If you so much as move your hands, I will cut them off,” he said as he walked to the other side of the table. I wanted to defy, but I also wanted to keep my hands.
“I had twenty men out looking for you and you will receive a whip for each and everyone of them and remember that this hurts me as much as it does you. This f*****g mate bond makes me feel your pain.”
“Then f*****g reject me. Get rid of me, I don’t care!” I growled back at him.
He didn’t say anymore but walked behind me and brought the whip down on my back. I wouldn’t give him my screams. I gritted my teeth through the pain.
“I want to hear you count them and if you don’t, we will start over.”
“One,” I said through clenched teeth.
Whip.
“Two.”
I continued until I had counted to twenty. I could feel my shirt was drenched in blood and tears were streaming down my face, but I didn’t scream once. I wouldn’t.
“Let’s go.” He growled out and grabbed my hair and led me out of the room. He walked me back to the same cell and threw me in there. I hit the ground with a thud. I heard the door slam shut and then lock. I crawled to my hard cold cot and pulled myself up on it, not moving another inch, waiting for the pain to subside.
“I’m trying to heal you as fast as I can,” Rae, my wolf, linked me.
“I know Rae. It’s ok, I knew you're weak from the silver.”
“The silver wasn’t on you until right before you woke up. They kept you sedated while they removed the branch from you and packed it while I healed it. It seemed the Alpha wanted us to live.”
“I’m not sure why, because he doesn’t act like it.”
“Sleep and I will heal your back.”
I closed my eyes, but it took me a long time to fall asleep.
I woke up when a guard did their rounds down here. I stretched out and felt better, but I was still sore.
“Thanks Rae. You’re a miracle worker.”
“I know, girl! Go back to sleep. We need all we can get.”
I closed my eyes to oblige her, but I heard to door open and the heavy footsteps of Alpha Aaron. Each step down the stairs was like a knife to my heart. I knew he was coming down here for me. What was he going to do to me this time? My heart was hammering in my chest. He finally made it to my cell and unlocked it and came inside.
“Get up,” he barked out.
I stood up, not wanting another whipping or a slap or anything else from him. I just wanted some food and sleep. He stalked over to me and before I could blink, his hands were around my neck, securing something around it. I could feel a slight burn of silver and when he removed his hands, mine flew up to my neck. It was some type of collar. He reached up again and contented something to it and started pulling. It was a leash. He put a f*****g collar and leash on me. There was just enough silver in there that my wolf was gone.
He pulled me upstairs and outside and to the back of the house. When we got there, he had set up a dog kennel and dog house.
“Your new living arrangements. Only I will let you out, and when you are out, you will be on the leash. You can’t be trusted to not run away again and my soon to be Luna doesn’t want you in my closet anymore.”
He opened the gate, unhooked the leash, and shoved me inside. I feel to my knees and buried my face in my hands and cried. I could hear people laughing. I got up and went to the doghouse. I would hide in there for the rest of the time.
