Chapter 5 Betrayal Marghie As the days passed and I worked tirelessly to solve the company's issues abroad, I felt a sense of relief knowing that things were finally falling into place. The problems were resolved, and I could return home to LA anytime now. Excitement filled my heart at the thought of seeing John again and sharing the news with him. I chose not to tell anyone about my imminent return. I wanted to surprise everyone, especially John, with my unexpected arrival. It was the perfect opportunity to ask him the question that had been on my mind for a while now - to get married and start a new chapter together. The day of my departure finally arrived, and I boarded the plane in first class. As I settled into my seat, I couldn't help but feel a mix of anticipation and nervousness. The idea of seeing John again made my heart flutter with excitement. I glanced to my side and noticed a man in a tailored suit sitting nearby. From my angle, I could see his profile, and he looked quite handsome. However, my thoughts were entirely focused on the upcoming reunion, and I didn't give him much attention. The airplane took off, and I found myself gazing out the window. The passing clouds seemed to mirror the whirlwind of emotions inside me. I couldn't wait to be back home, to feel John's embrace and share the news of our company's success. As the flight progressed, my mind wandered to our future together. I pictured the life we could build, the dreams we could achieve side by side. It was a future that filled me with hope and joy. Lost in my thoughts, I hardly noticed the time passing by. The sound of the seatbelt sign chiming brought me back to the present, signaling our descent. Soon, I would be back in LA, back to the life and love I had missed so much. With the plane safely landed, I made my way through the bustling airport terminal. My heart raced with every step as I looked for Darlene, eager to share this special moment with my dearest friend. And there she was, waiting with a wide smile on her face. "Marghie!" Darlene called out, waving excitedly. "Darlene!" I replied, rushing into her open arms. "I'm so glad you're here!" "I wouldn't miss this moment for the world," Darlene said. As we settled into the car and drove towards our familiar neighborhood, I couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation and excitement. It was great to be back home, and I couldn't wait to surprise John with my unexpected arrival. However, something felt off as I noticed Darlene sitting beside me, unusually quiet and distant. Her usually bubbly personality was subdued, and I sensed that she was hiding something. "Darlene, is everything okay?" I asked, concern lacing my voice. "You seem a bit quiet." She glanced at me briefly, offering a weak smile. "Oh, it's nothing, Marghie." As I settled into Darlene's home, the advice she had given me about not contacting John or my family right away lingered in my mind. It was an unexpected suggestion, but I trusted Darlene's intuition, knowing she had my best interests at heart. "Marghie, why don't we make it a surprise for your family?" Darlene suggested. "Don't text them or anyone else just yet. Let's wait until tomorrow when you can see their reactions in person." I furrowed my brow in thought, considering her words carefully. "You think it's a good idea?" I asked, unsure of how they would react to my sudden return. Darlene smiled reassuringly. "I do. It'll be a special moment when they see you in person, and you can share all the exciting news face-to-face." Her confidence in the idea put me at ease, and I nodded in agreement. "Alright, let's do that then. It'll be a fun surprise." Throughout the night, we engaged in various topics of conversation, reminiscing about old memories, sharing our plans for the future, and laughing at silly jokes. The evening passed in a whirlwind of laughter and heartfelt discussions, and I cherished every moment of it. As the night wore on, Darlene and I retired to our respective rooms, and I laid in bed, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves about the following day. I had missed my family and John dearly, and the thought of surprising them brought a smile to my face. The next morning, as the sun rose, I felt a surge of anticipation. I knew today would be a day of surprises and joy. Darlene and I headed to my home, and my heart raced with excitement. The thought of seeing my family and John again filled me with happiness. As we approached the house, I felt a mix of emotions. It had been a while since I last saw them, and I couldn't wait to share the good news with them. However, as Darlene and I approached the living room, our excitement turned into shock and disbelief. There, in the living room, stood John and Cassie, locked in an intimate embrace, kissing as if no one else was around. The sight hit me like a tidal wave, and for a moment, I couldn't move or speak. Darlene gasped beside me, and her hand instinctively reached for mine, offering silent support. I felt a mix of emotions - hurt, anger, and confusion. John and Cassie pulled away from each other, their eyes widening in surprise at our sudden appearance. "Marghie... I..." John stammered, looking guilty and unsure. The silence in the room was deafening, and I found my voice, though it trembled slightly. "J-John. How could you do this?" Cassie stepped forward, attempting to explain herself, but my emotions were too raw to listen. "Marghie, I'm sorry, it just happened, I never meant to hurt you," she pleaded. Tears welled up in my eyes as I turned away, unable to bear the pain of seeing them together. "I trusted you, John," I whispered, my voice breaking. "I thought you will proposed to me when I'm back." Darlene's grip on my hand tightened, offering silent support. She knew how much I had loved John, and seeing this betrayal hurt me deeply. "I'm sorry, Marghie," John said softly, but his words were hollow. "I never meant to hurt you, but I can't deny how I feel. I love Cassie now."
