Chapter 2---Wicked plan

1025 Words
The next day, as sunlight streamed through the windows, I felt a spark of happiness within me. John Carter, my loving boyfriend, was coming over to our home. He was the only person who made me feel important and loved, regardless of my parents' biased treatment. I wanted to make this day special, so I decided to cook a meal for us to share. As the tantalizing aroma of the food filled the house, I eagerly awaited John's arrival. When he finally walked through the door with his warm smile, my heart skipped a beat. "Hey, Marghie," he greeted me, pulling me into a gentle embrace. "Hey, John. I'm so glad you're here," I replied, my voice filled with genuine happiness. We settled at the dining table, and I served the meal I had prepared with love. As we ate together, I couldn't help but feel grateful for John's presence. With him, I felt seen, valued, and appreciated, something I rarely experienced at home. Over lunch, we shared stories and laughter, and the joy I felt was palpable. I cherished these moments with him, knowing that his unwavering support would help me face any challenges that lay ahead. *** Unbeknownst to Marghie and John, in the distance, Cassie was lurking outside the window, observing them with envy and jealousy. She had a secret crush on John and couldn't stand seeing him so happy with her sister. As she watched them share laughter and affection, a pang of bitterness surged within her. Later that day, Cassie overheard her father, George, talking in his office about an urgent need to travel abroad to manage a pressing business matter. A mischievous plan formed in her mind as she saw an opportunity to create distance between Marghie and John. Determined to keep Marghie away from John, Cassie decided to use her father's upcoming trip to her advantage. She knocked on his office door, pretending to have an important matter to discuss. "Dad, I overheard you talking about going abroad. Please reconsider," Cassie pleaded, feigning concern. "I have a fashion show coming up, and I really want you and Mama to be there to support me." George looked at her with a mix of surprise and fondness. "Oh, Cassie, I appreciate your enthusiasm, but this trip is necessary for the company. I'll be back soon." Refusing to back down, Cassie pressed on, knowing she had to play her cards carefully. "But, Dad, I have an idea. What if you send Marghie in your place? She can handle things here, and you'll be there to cheer me on at the fashion show." George hesitated, considering her proposition. "Well, I suppose it could be a good opportunity for Marghie to prove herself. Alright, I'll talk to her about it." Satisfied with her manipulation, Cassie left her father's office with a wicked grin. Her plan was set in motion, and she relished the thought of having Marghie out of the picture while she pursued her own desires. *** As John bid me farewell and left, I went about my day, trying to distract myself from the lingering unease in my heart. Later that evening, my father asked to speak with me in his study. As I entered the room, I noticed the serious expression on his face, and my heart skipped a beat. I took a seat, waiting for him to share the reason behind this sudden meeting. "Marghie, I have something important to discuss with you," my father began, his voice measured. "There's an urgent business matter that needs immediate attention at one of our overseas branches. I've decided to entrust you with the responsibility of going abroad to handle it." His words caught me off guard, and I felt a mixture of surprise and uncertainty. "Me? You want me to go abroad?" I asked, trying to process the magnitude of his decision. George nodded, his gaze steady. "Yes, It's an opportunity for you to showcase your capabilities and prove yourself in the business world." I couldn't help but feel a sense of doubt creeping in. "But dad, why not go yourself? You're more experienced and have dealt with similar situations before." He gave a dismissive wave of his hand, not bothering to make eye contact. "There are other matters that require my attention here. Your mother and I have decided to support Cassie's fashion show, and it is more important for us to be there for her. Besides, I want you to handle this and show that we can be also rely to you." As he spoke, a feeling of sadness washed over me. It seemed like once again, my sister's desires and needs took precedence over mine. The inequality in treatment was disheartening, and it made me question if I would ever be truly seen and valued for who I was. I swallowed my emotions and simply nodded, not wanting to give him the satisfaction of seeing my hurt. "Alright, Papa. If you think I can handle it, then I'll do my best." George's expression remained stoic, showing no sign of sympathy. "I expect nothing less, Marghie. This is an opportunity for you to prove yourself and show that you are capable." With that, the conversation seemed to come to an end, and I excused myself from the study. As I walked away, I couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions - disappointment, hurt, but also determination. I would take on this responsibility, not for my parents' approval, but to prove to myself that I was more than just Cassie's sister. *** As George and Marghie engaged in their conversation inside the study, Cassie was silently listening outside the door. A mischievous grin spread across her face as she heard her father's decision to send Marghie abroad. It was the perfect opportunity for her to get closer to John, the person she had secretly been crushing on. Excitement bubbled within Cassie as she quickly formulated her plan. She knew she had to act fast before Marghie left for her trip. Casually slipping away from the door, Cassie made her way to her own room, her heart pounding with anticipation.
