Defeated, I turned to Lourdes, who had been assigned to share a room with me. It wasn't an ideal situation, and my hesitation must have been evident in my expression.
Lourdes, however, was more understanding than I expected. "It's alright, Darren. We can share a room if you're comfortable with it."
I wanted to object, to say I wasn't comfortable at all, but I found myself nodding instead. There was no point in making a fuss about it. After all, I needed to maintain my secret, and sharing a room with Lourdes was a small price to pay for that. With a forced smile, I replied, "Sure, Lourdes. Let's share the room."
