Tears welled up in my eyes from both the physical pain and the emotional turmoil. "Dad, how can you take her side? After everything..."
Carmina, her voice stern, chimed in. "Marghie, you need to calm down. This situation is difficult for all of us."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. My own family, siding with Cassie, the one who had torn my world apart. It was a nightmare I couldn't wake up from.
The anger inside me reached its breaking point, and without thinking, I lunged at Cassie, slapping her across the face with all the force of my frustration. She cried out in pain, her hand flying to her reddened cheek.
"You had this coming!" I yelled at her, my voice trembling with fury.
Cassie stumbled backward, tears streaming down her face as she clutched her stinging cheek. She ran to our father, George, seeking refuge and comfort.
George's face contorted with anger as he examined Cassie's swollen cheek. His disappointment was palpable as he turned to me, his voice a thunderous boom in the room. "Marghie, that was completely uncalled for! How dare you attack your own sister!"
I was seething, tears streaming down my own face as I shouted back, "How can you take her side after what she did to me, Dad? How can you?"
Carmina stepped forward, her voice filled with disappointment. "Marghie, this behavior is unacceptable. You've crossed a line."
I couldn't believe it. My own family, turning their backs on me because of Cassie's betrayal. The pain was unbearable, and I felt like I was spiraling into a dark abyss.
George's anger simmered as he spoke, his words cutting like a knife. "Marghie, I think it's best if you leave this house. From now on, we can't consider you a part of this family."
I was stunned, the weight of his words crushing me. "You can't be serious, Dad."
He nodded, his expression resolute. "I am. This situation has gone too far, and we can't condone this behavior."
My heart ached with despair as I realized the magnitude of what had just transpired. I had lost not only John but also my family, all in one devastating moment.
As Carmina hugged Cassie tightly, her anger was evident in her eyes as she shot a disapproving look in my direction. She then gently pulled Cassie toward her room, wanting to comfort her wounded daughter.
John, on the other hand, stood there for a moment, his eyes filled with uncertainty. He glanced at me, a mixture of guilt and sadness in his gaze, before deciding to follow Carmina and Cassie into the room.
George let out a heavy sigh, his disappointment evident in his tired eyes. He turned to me and his voice was weary as he spoke, "Marghie, you need to leave this house now. We can't condone this kind of behavior."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. My own father, choosing Cassie over me, even after her betrayal. The hurt and anger inside me flared up, and I couldn't hold back the words that escaped my lips.
"Fine, Dad," I said, my voice cold and bitter. "I never felt like I truly belonged to this family anyway."
With that, I turned away, my smirk masking the pain I felt deep inside. I walked out of the house, leaving behind the family that had once meant everything to me. The tears that had been held back for so long now flowed freely, and I knew that my life would never be the same again.
As Darlene drove, I sat in the passenger seat, my gaze fixed on the passing scenery outside the window. The tears still welled up in my eyes, and I couldn't shake off the pain of what had just transpired at my family home.
Darlene let out a deep sigh, her eyes flicking to me with sympathy. "I can't believe your parents would take Cassie's side over yours, Marghie. It's just... it's unfair."
I wiped away a tear and managed a bitter grin. "Darlene, you know how it's always been. Ever since we were kids, they've favored Cassie. She got the new clothes, the fancy toys, everything."
Darlene shook her head in frustration. "But that doesn't excuse their behavior now, Marghie. You're their daughter too, and they should have supported you."
I leaned back in my seat, letting out a weary sigh. "I've known for a long time that I'd never be their favorite. It hurts, but it's not surprising."
Darlene glanced at me, her expression filled with concern. "Marghie, you deserve so much better than this. You're strong, talented, and determined. You'll find a way to build a better life for yourself."
I appreciated her words, even though they couldn't completely ease the pain. "Thanks, Darlene. I just need some time to figure things out."
Darlene's frustration was palpable as she continued driving, and she couldn't hold back her feelings any longer. "Marghie, I can't believe John would do this. He's supposed to be your boyfriend, and now he's involved with both you and Cassie? He's a playboy, a moron. You deserve so much better."
I nodded, my own anger and hurt still raw. "I trusted him, Darlene. I thought we had something special, but he betrayed me. And my parents, taking Cassie's side... It's just too much."
Darlene's grip on the steering wheel tightened as she spoke. "John's not worth your tears, Marghie. You're smart, talented, and beautiful. You deserve someone who truly values you and treats you with respect."
Tears welled up in my eyes again, but this time, they were tears of gratitude for having a friend like Darlene by my side. "Thank you, Darlene. I don't know what I'd do without you."
She offered me a reassuring smile. "You'll get through this, Marghie. And when you do, you'll be stronger and better than ever."
As we drove away from my family home, I knew that I had a long journey ahead of me, but I was determined to find my own path and build a future where I was truly valued and loved.
