“He’s exercising his right to remain silent,” Hsu said.
The owner of the tent where they found the girl had given his name as Yusuf Veli at the crime scene. Veli gave a statement to the police about his whereabouts the night before and had said that he’d given the girl permission to sleep in his tent. It would take them a few days to sort through any video footage they could get from the area to verify the alibi. Now that Nick and Hsu had him in an interview room, he hadn’t said another word.
“Anything out of Forno?” Nick asked.
“He no longer works at Costco. Hasn’t for a few months, so that was a lie,” Hsu said, “Search of his tent came up with the usual street contraband. No weapons. Drug residue. Forno’s habit doesn’t result in a lot of stockpiling.”
