Unfortunately, my near-sleep revelation meant Santi and I didn’t get to sleep for a couple more hours. He called the O’Malleys and confirmed that Katherine did indeed have a ring like the one we’d found, and then he checked in with the ranger and Savannah to see if they’d had any luck at the campsite Sawyer and I had found.
As he expected, the campsite had been abandoned by the time they reached it, and so they hadn’t bothered to call him, figuring bad news could wait until morning.
