Chapter 02
Shock would not be an adequate word to measure how I was feeling at the moment, but it would just do.
Because those five simple words from Zayne, came with a sudden tornado of different ugly feelings - despair, shock, pain…so much pain and anger.
“W…what?”
“You heard me right. I'm going to marry Eliana.” Zayne repeated casually.
“Oh Zayne, you know you don't have to. I do not want to come in between your marriage or….”
“You are not coming in between anything, Ana. I love you, you know that. If anything, she's the one coming between us, our family. I can't let that happen again.”
I love you….
Funny.
He had said that to me two nights ago - and every other night before that.
Does that mean he was just lying to me? All these years I've just been a tool for an heir.
Not that I could ever replace the love of his life.
I could feel my knees quivering, and it's a miracle that I was still able to stand straight. The room felt like it was spinning around me as I watched my husband, my mate - with this woman.
“Besides, like I mentioned earlier - I'm the Alpha. I can take as many wives as I want. I'm entitled to it, and I'm choosing to make Eliana my wife.”
I had no idea what to say, how to argue with that, because he was right.
He had the right to get as many wives as he wished for - and I cannot stop that.
I blinked hard in an attempt to fight back the tears burning my eyes.
“So that's it? You want to make Eliana your second wife?”
“Yes. And you will do nothing about it.”
I nodded.
Fine. Yes, he had the right to this, but I also have the right to take my leave - knowing now what I meant to him.
I am not entitled to stay.
Before I could open my lips for a response, Zayne continued - “Our marriage will come with some changes. Eliana will be my Luna, not you. It makes perfect sense since she's the mother of my only child.”
That was like another stab in my very fresh wound and the pain I was already feeling, mounted dangerously to the point where I could have sworn that my heart was bleeding internally.
“Zayn, I'm your mate!”
“So? You've had five years but did nothing - so being my mate doesn't give you any sort of exclusive entitlement. You should count yourself lucky that I am not divorcing and rejecting you right now.”
A shaky breath left me.
Count myself lucky?
Count myself lucky?? He thinks he's doing me a favour?
“That's what I want,” I murmured, and bit my lip when he sharply turned to me, his eyes wide, “That's what I want. A divorce and a rejection.”
“You can't be serious.”
I shrugged, “but I am. I mean, what's the point of me staying here? You have the love of your life and your perfect beautiful family.”
Zayne's nostrils flared as he covered the distance between us in three angry strides, and grabbed my chin “You are not going anywhere, Java. That's my decision to make, and I decide who gets to stay or leave. And I say, no divorce or rejection is happening in this household!”
I didn't want to respond - hell I had nothing to say.
I stepped away from him, gave them one final glare before marching out of the sitting room.
My heart was heavy, and my knees were almost too weak to keep me straight as I walked - staggered - out of the gate and into the busy streets.
This has to be some sort of nightmare. It has to be a twisted nightmare because this isn't Zayne.
He can't possibly do this to me.
Not now - dear goddess, especially not now that I was pregnant, not now that I was carrying a child - Zayne's child.
Pain blinded me, tears blurred my vision, but I kept on walking.
Why did Eliana decide to come back now? It didn't make any sense.
And these past years I really believed that Zayne had gotten over her.
Well I guess not.
For five years I was just an unworthy replacement that could be so easily tossed aside and..
I hiccuped.
I do not care what Zayne thinks or what he has to say.
Divorce or not, rejection or not, I am leaving, and he will never hear from me or my child, ever again.
I have been humiliated and disgraced, and I won't take that.
I sighed as my thoughts went to my family. How would father react when he finds out what happened?
He would wage war on Zayne and his pack, that's for sure.
My father was the Alpha of the Crescent Pack, a small yet powerful pack, and I was the only child.
When we had discovered that Zayne and I were mates, they saw it as a chance to form a permanent alliance between the two packs and it was a win-win situation for everyone.
Zayne had….
The loud honk of a car filtered through my thoughts and I turned abruptly to see a car speeding towards me - although I turned too late.
Before I could get myself and run out of the road, it was already too late and a yell left my lungs as I felt a painful impact on my body.
People screamed, my body ached, and I still had no time to process what just happened before everything went black.
************
Loud beeping woke me up from a slumber I assumed was very deep and long.
I opened my eyes, taking a moment to adjust to the bright light in the unfamiliar environment I had woken up to.
Everything around me seemed sterile and cold, with the faint beeping of machines echoing in the background.
Where on earth am i?
I tried to move, but pain shot through my body, stopping me in my tracks. It felt like I'd been crushed over and over again by a moving trailer and then some.
Taking in my surroundings, I realised I was in a hospital. The white walls, the smell of disinfectant—it was all too clear. But no matter how hard I tried to think, I couldn't remember what had happened.
Just then, a nurse walked in, smiling warmly. "Good morning," she said cheerfully. "How are you feeling?"
"I... I don't know," I stammered, my voice barely above a whisper. "What happened?"
"You've been in an accident," she explained gently. "You've been here for three days now."
I racked my brain, trying to piece together any fragment of memory, but it was like trying to grasp at smoke. "I can't remember," I admitted, my voice tinged with panic.
The nurse's smile faltered for a moment before she composed herself. "That's okay," she reassured me. "Sometimes it takes a while for memories to come back. Do you remember your name?"
I closed my eyes, trying to pull anything from the void, but it was blank. Completely blank. "No," I said finally, feeling a lump forming in my throat. "I can't remember anything."
The nurse nodded with a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, just rest for now. I'll be back later," she said before leaving the room.
I stared up at the ceiling, trying to recall anything - anything at all. Names, places…but my head was empty.
I couldn't even remember my own name, who I was, or how I ended up in this hospital. It was like staring into a void.
A few minutes later, the door opened again.
A man walked in, a very handsome man with dark, wavy hair, piercing blue eyes, and a strong jawline.
He wore a casual button-up shirt and jeans, looking both approachable and rugged. His smile was warm, but there was a hint of worry in his eyes.
The nurse followed close behind him.
"Hi," he said softly, pulling up a chair beside my bed. "It's good to see you awake."
I looked at him, trying to place his face, but it was just another blank space in my mind. "Who are you?"
"My name is Elias. I am your brother." he explained, reaching out to take my hand. "You've been in an accident, but you're going to be okay."
The nurse stepped forward, her tone calm and soothing.
"You have something called amnesia. It's why you can't remember anything right now. It's not uncommon after a traumatic event like the one you've been through. Although we cannot tell how long it will last, we will still have to keep a close eye on you.”
I glanced between them, my heart rate escalating "Amnesia?" I repeated, the word tasting foreign on my tongue.
Memory loss?
Oh my…
Elias squeezed my hand gently. "I am right here. I have known you all my life, so I will definitely make it easier for you. Do not stress it. You could even get better in a few hours.”
I could hear his words, but I did not understand any of them.
All I could hear over and over in my mind was the fact that I had memory loss.
How did it happen?
How on earth did I get here and how am I supposed to live even for a few hours without knowing anything about myself?
“One more thing i think you would love to know,” the nurse said, looking up from her chart, “You are pregnant.”
My eyes widened.
I don't know my name or where I am from - now I am pregnant, and I don't even remember who the father is.
With a groan, I shut my eyes and threw my head back on the bed.
