The Call from the Past

1927 Words
It was the day of the arrival of the pack’s heir. Everyone was called to the hall to receive him and according to my pack’s tradition, we were supposed to wear either white or pastel pink for the ladies for any occasion. I looked in the mirror and ran my hand along the dress to smoothen the creases. It was a white dress with light pink flowers and it reached up to my ankle. Jenny went out with me to shop for a dress and this was her choice which I would say that I loved it. “How do I look?” Lily was sitting on the table and grooming herself. Upon hearing my question, she stopped and then looked at me with her tongue still dangling out. I twirled around to show her and she lazily looked away, continuing what she was doing. Smiling, I glanced back in the mirror and gave a last look then walked towards my bed to grab the bouquet. Lily snuggled into her bed and purred as I patted her head. Today it was drizzling outside and Lily being hydrophobic, couldn't stand the water anywhere near her. Therefore it should be safe to say that she will be home and I could snuggle with her tonight. “I will come back soon. Don't miss me too much.” I whispered as her purr grew louder. Sighing and awed at the cute sight, I reluctantly got up and walked towards the door. Honestly, I just want to snuggle with Lily and binge-Netflix with her. Closing the door gently behind me, I could hear my Dad and Leon talking with each other. Probably with the pack-related business. Their heads snapped at my approaching footsteps and I stopped at the top of the stairs as they looked at me. Both of their faces broke out with a smile as Father walked toward the bottom of the stairs, waiting for me. I smiled softly and slowly climbed down the stairs. He pulled his hand out for me and I grabbed it. “You look beautiful, Lula.” His eyes softened as he patted on back of my hand. Leon came to my side and grabbed my other free hand. Dad let go of my right hand as Leon twirls me around. I giggled as I twirled. Both of them were wearing dark blue suits with white collar shirts. I held onto Leon’s arm as we walked out of the door. Luca and his mate, Jenny will be there at the party as they live in the pack house with other mated werewolves. It was a 15-minute walk to the party and the rain had stopped, fortunately. Thankfully, I wore an ankle-length dress as the ground was still wet and muddy due to the aftermath of the rain. Seeing that we might get dirty, Leon insisted on going by the car. Several pack members ranging from every age walk to the party and Leon parked at the side. Every female was wearing either white or pink or both of the colour combinations. While for men, it was black suits the most. “You guys go inside first.” I looked at the alpha family along with the beta and gamma waiting at the entrance to greet Mason as my father announced and walked towards their way. While nodding, I held onto Leon’s hand and walked inside. It was lively inside as everyone looked great in their attires and since the children were looked after by the nannies, the parents looked relieved and less stressed. I could see small groups forming the moment I stepped in. Mostly, werewolves liked to stay in a group with someone they grew up with and having a stranger other than their mates isn’t received well. So Leon got his childhood friends calling him over to them and I latch on to him as I didn’t have many friends as I grew up home-schooled most of my life. “Leon. Lula.” Jason greeted Leon by patting his back and grabbing my hand, placing a gentle kiss on the back of my hand. I smiled softly at his constant flirtation. Leon glared at him and warned him to stay at least fifty meters away from me. Jason being Jason, he playfully rolled his eyes and then winked at me. Leon has five friends whom he grew up with and spends most of his time with them. Be it weekends or training days, they would always be together. “You look beautiful.” Aaron leaned slightly towards me and whispered. I turned towards him as he backed away with a small smile gracing his cute face. While Jason would openly admit and talk aloud without any fear for Leon, Aaron would compliment me through his introverted and calm actions. “Thank you. You also look handsome in a black suit.” I said as he smiled a little with a redness on his ear. It isn’t unknown to me that Aaron has a crush on me. Whenever he would come to my house, he would always make small talk and compliment me or even sometimes buy me chocolate and ice cream on random days. I knew it since he was in middle school. I also had a crush on him back then and hoped I would be his mate, seeing his tiny actions which always warmed my heart. But sadly, my feelings for him are long gone and now, there resides a lone person who had occupied every corner of my mind, heart and soul. But I could still see his hope as it isn't unknown that nowadays, many werewolves reject their mate given by the moon goddess and choose to mate with the person they love. He still hasn't met his mate yet and I fear that he will reject that innocent girl just because of me. While Leon was talking with his friend for the past half an hour, I looked around to find a seat as my feet started to hurt and then my phone suddenly rang. Taking out of my purse, I smiled. Only my best friend could help me with my situation. Looking around, I could see that Mason still hadn't arrived and most of the werewolves looking bored and lazing around. Leon caught me standing uncomfortable and then looked at my feet. Shaking my head to let him know that I was fine, I raised my phone and pointed to it. He nodded and I went to find a silent place and pressed the receive button. Instantly, Beatrix's face came into view and she looked so excited. “Ahhh…Aysu.” Only Beatrix calls me by my middle name other than Mom as she says that it sounds pretty. Her cheeks were red and her smile seemed to be growing with each passing second. “You won’t believe….Helen got engaged!!” my heart warmed up while looking at the excited Beatrix. Growing up, she didn't have her parents home all the time as they owned a business around the globe and always travelled so Helen started to look after Beatrix when they were nine and three years old respectively. Beatrix held high regard for her sister and looked up to her as her mother. She probably might be the happiest person on earth to see her sister happy after finding her mate at a late age and having her happy ending. She went up to talk about how she helped her brother-in-law James to decorate the place to propose to her sister and yes, Helen is getting married this Autumn at their pack. Amid Beatrix's excitement, Helen then grabbed the phone from her. Many werewolves don't do weddings as they just need to mark each other to show that they are life partners and willing to spend their whole lives with each other. But Helen used to say that she would have a wedding like she had seen in the movies and James wouldn't be able to break this beautiful woman’s heart. “Hello, Lula. How are you?” Helen always carried motherly energy with her and a warm smile which made you feel closer to her. Beatrix grumbled saying that Helen pushed her so hard that she fell from the bed. Rolling her eyes at Beatrix, Helen turned her attention back to me. “Hello Helen, I am doing well here with my overbearing brothers and father.” she chuckled as she knew how much father and my two brothers tend to be towards me. “Show her your ring.” Beatrix's voice rang next to her and even I was excited to see her ring, Helen brought her left hand out. It was simple and beautiful as Helen preferred. It was a simple golden band with moonstone cat eyes. Helen liked having a minimalistic and simple life. I fell in love with the ring. “Lula. You need to come to my wedding.” my heart stopped and looked into Helen’s warm eyes. For years, I was invited to their pack to visit them but each year I rejected them for so many excuses and this time, I won't be able to reject it as this is Helen’s once-in-a-lifetime event. I couldn't bear to see Helen’s disappointed face as she used to treat me well during her visit to the Moon Academy. “Uh no. You can't reject the bride-to-be’s wish. I want you to be here one month before my wedding.” Helen's face turned serious and her voice was cold just like the situation whereby she would show up annoyed at the Moon Academy probably a hundred times due to her younger sister's mischievous and berating Beatrix to calm her anger down. Even though this might be the first time showing herself to me like that, it means she would be angry if I didn't show up. She sweetly smiled before waving me goodbye and passing the phone back to Beatrix. Beatrix looked troubled. “Umm…where was I? Yeah. Oh, I forgot to tell you that. Nothing. Look—” Only Beatrix knew why I was avoiding coming to her pack and she helped me a lot to reject that invitation from her sister. She couldn't go against her sister's wish or mine, her best friend's reluctance. My hand was clenched against my thigh and I could feel wetness inside my clenched hand. The back door opened and Leon asked me to come inside as Mason had arrived. I forced out an uncomfortable smile as a sudden pain hit me on the head. Luckily there was a bench nearby, I slowly sat on it while frowning at the growing pain. Leon's smile vanished and soon frowned seeing me sweat. He rushed up and kneeled before me while holding my hand. He asked if I was alright again and again which made Beatrix scared. Closing my eyes tightly and clenching my teeth from intense pain, even the tiny low sounds made it difficult as I could hear them loud and banging against my ear drum. As the pain came, it went away suddenly. I opened my eyes to see Leon, Dad, Luca and Jenny surrounding me, visibly looking worried. Beatrix was still on video and Jenny was holding the phone. I felt my energy drain out as I fell forward right into Leon. There we go again. Making everyone worried just because I didn't eat on time. I closed my eyes and accepted the fate I would have when I woke up next time.
