Meeting With The Councils
Arielle's POV
The sound of keys unlocking woke me up from my sleep. I lifted myself up with my hands resting my back on the cold stone walls as I rubbed my eyes with my hands. Outside the prison bar, Sophia stood there alongside two other guards who had unlocked the doors.
I sat at the corner frightened at the sight before me. I was hesitant about leaving.
Sophia walked into the cell, she squatted to reach for my hands. “Arielle, come with me. It's important.” she said, pulling me up with her hands. “The councils are having a meeting, a serious meeting.”
I stood up and walked outside the cell with her. We walked out from the dungeon. I could hear the cell bars locking behind the empty cell room that now hosted no one.
Meanwhile, back at the grand hall, everyone was seated in their rightful place as the meeting was about to commence.
“Alpha Adrian has summoned all of us here today because he has very important news to share with us. I would love you all to listen with the best interest at heart.” Elder Orion said, bowing slightly before taking his seat.
Alpha Adrian was hesitant at first about speaking but he summoned the courage to do so. “I have found my mate. The Luna of our pack.” He said.
The council of elders' faces were filled with puzzled looks as they exchanged glances among themselves.
“Is there a problem?” Alpha Adrian said, his hands clenched on the armrest.
“I believe that what I'm about to say right now voices what all the elders here have in mind. The recent mating ball ended in chaos. It ended before it even officially started, it is puzzling how and where you found your mate.” Elder Zion said.
“Well, I found my mate before I ended the ball.” Alpha Adrian said.
The elders exchanged puzzled looks.
“Well, that's good news. It's a thing of joy knowing that we would be getting our own Luna soon. Who is this noblewoman you speak of?” Elder Shiz asked, a half hearted smile crept his face.
“Yes our Alpha, from what noble region among our territory is she from?” Elder Oz asked.
“She is of no noble birth nor is she an indigene of our territory.” Alpha Adrian said.
The elders were more puzzled.
“Please, go ahead and tell us who would be the Luna of the great Dreadmoon Pack. This is becoming a puzzle we find hard to solve.” Elder Shiz added.
“Arielle. Arielle Odette.” Alpha Adrian said.
A wave of murmurs swept through the hall as each elders exchanged unsettling glances.
“Aside from Arielle Odette we all know—the rogue, is there another Arielle Odette you speak of?” Elder Oz asked.
“I speak of Arielle Odette. The Arielle that now dwells among us!” Alpha Adrian yelled, anger seething through his voice. “And I plan on getting married to her as soon as possible.”
“The wedding is too sudden. The people would never accept a rogue like Arielle to be the Luna of our pack.” Elder Zion said.
“He is very correct. Arielle is an outcast, a rogue and a threat. She shouldn't even live among us in the first place.” Elder Mikleus added.
“It's been six years now. Six years ago when Arielle first stepped her feet into our territory and yet nothing has happened. Aren't you tired of calling her a threat, rogue and an outcast?” Elder Orion added, challenging the rest of the elders.
“Elder Orion, you need to understand that six years doesn't change the fact that she is a rogue and an outcast.” Elder Shiz said.
“The moon goddess did not create room for you or anyone to challenge her will for the people.” Elder Orion said.
“But Arielle can't be our Luna. She doesn't possess any quality. We don't even know if she can shift into her wolf form. It's been six years now and not once had she shifted to a wolf.” Elder Zion added.
“Yes elder Zion, you're right. She can't be our Luna if she can't even shift to her wolf form.” Elder Shiz said in turn.
“If Alpha Dawson was still alive…..”
“Enough! Don't you dare speak of my brother!” Elder Orion yelled, anger seething through his voice as he jolted up.
“You and I know that Arielle Odette can never be our Luna. She is an outcast, a rogue and a threat!” Elder Shiz said, jolting up.
“Enough! Enough!” Alpha Adrian screamed. “Guards! Take Elder Shiz and lock him up in the dungeon. No food or water till my anger dies down.” Alpha Adrian said as two hefty men walked in dragging out elder Shiz.
“Please Alpha Adrian. You can't do this to me!” He yelled.
“Anyone else?” Alpha Adrian asked as he jolted from his throne.
The room was filled with silence.
“I am the Alpha. I am your alpha and my words are law. The moon goddess chose Arielle as my mate and that is not up for questioning. The moon goddess never makes a mistake and any objections from now henceforth would cost you a head on a trident!” Alpha Adrian yelled.
The room fell into a deep silence as each of the elders exchanged surprised glances.
“Now back to what I said earlier, I'll be getting married to her as soon as possible. You all need to start planning for a wedding in three days' time. I would leave you all with that.” Alpha Adrian said, walking out of the hall.
The hall slowly emptied as each elders exited the hall individually or in pairs, their faces filled with emotions they couldn't express with words.
Meanwhile, Beta Lucian and his daughter Elowen were together in the inner chamber of Elowen. Lucian had already received the news of the alpha finding a mate and that the mate was Arielle. He was disappointed in the Alpha's decision to marry her.
“Father, you know we can't let that happen. What about me? You promised me that I would be the one to sit side by side with the Alpha. You told me that position was meant for me but now he is marrying a rogue and an outcast. Adrian wouldn't even look at me—not even for a second.” Elowen said, anger seething through her voice as she held a pillow towards her chest.
“We wouldn't let that happen. We would need a new plan.” Lucian said, walking towards Elowen who sat on top of her bed as she wrapped her hands around her legs.
“Just like the plan we used in getting rid of Alpha Dawson?” Elowen asked.
“Yes. That was a massive success and it was a clean job done. We'll need another masterpiece like that to get rid of Arielle.” Lucian said, sitting on top of the bed as he held Elowen's hands.
“Arielle.” Elowen muttered, her grip on her bed sheet tightened.
“It's going to be okay. We got rid of Alpha Dawson, getting rid of a low life like Arielle shouldn't be harder.” Lucian said, trying to reassure his daughter, Elowen, that everything would work out as planned.
“Even if the plan goes as successful, Adrian doesn't love me. He didn't even want to offer a dance at the mating ball earlier, how would I get him to look at me the way I look at him?” Elowen asked, her voice filled with unrest.
“That shouldn't be your problem dear. Daddy is here, and Daddy knows what to do when the need arises.” Lucian said.
“You have to promise me that I'll be the one to sit side by side with Adrian. We need to stop that wedding, I wouldn't lose over to a rogue and an outcast.” Elowen said.
“Don't worry dear. Taking Arielle down is a very easy task. You would be the one to sit side by side with Adrian.” Lucian said.
We took down an Alpha before. A mere rogue? She won’t even see it coming.
