CHAPTER SEVEN
I went to the doctor a few days after the incident at the State Fair, and they bandaged up my hands and told me to refrain from any strenuous activity. I had trouble sleeping most nights after that. When it got really quiet, the quiet you get only at nighttime, I could hear Anna. When I did manage to get to sleep, I had reoccurring night terrors about her and the faceless man.
For a while, Anna was in no condition to take visitors, but even when I could have gone, I avoided visiting her for a long while. I thought that I might be able to rid her from my mind if I avoided seeing her.
I dropped out of school before it could resume that Fall. I never wrote my parents to tell them about that decision. I knew that they would stop sending money if I told them I wasn’t in school.
